McClurg Automotive Group is seeking a personable, organized, and motivated Automotive Service Writer to join our customer service team. As the primary point of contact for our service department, you will greet customers, listen to their vehicle concerns, and translate those problems into detailed work orders for our mechanics.
The ideal candidate possesses a mix of strong interpersonal communication, basic mechanical understanding, and sales skills to effectively explain repair recommendations and factory maintenance schedules to clients without technical jargon. Responsabilites would include but not be limited to:
Customer Intake:
Greet walk-in and phone customers. Listen to descriptions of vehicle symptoms, ask clarifying questions, and document the details accurately into the shop management software.
Service Estimating:
Develop detailed cost estimates for parts and labor. Verify warranty coverages or service contracts prior to drafting the repair order (RO).
Workflow Management:
Schedule service appointments and assign repair orders to the appropriate technicians based on their skill sets.
Liaison Communication:
Act as the link between the garage and the client. Provide status updates to customers throughout the day and obtain authorization signatures before any additional repairs are performed.
Invoicing and Cashiering:
Calculate final repair bills, explain the completed services and charges to the customer, and process electronic payments.
Vehicle Inspection:
Conduct basic visual service drive walk-arounds to note existing vehicle damage or immediate safety needs (like tire wear).
Experience:
1-2+ years of experience in an automotive service or parts retail environment is highly preferred.
Communication:
Exceptional communication and conflict resolution skills. The ability to diffuse high-stress situations or explain costly repair needs with empathy and clarity.
Technical Knowledge:
A strong foundational understanding of automotive systems, routine maintenance schedules, and basic mechanics.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency with data entry, Point of Sale (POS) systems, and specialized automotive software.
Licensing:
A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is typically required.
Pay:
$18.00 - $22.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 45.0 per week
