Job Description

American Synthetic Fiber is a plastics extrusion company that manufactures Polypropylene Staple Fiber. The Maintenance Technician position will be responsible for the installing, maintaining and troubleshooting this equipment. Prior experience in plastics extrusion or working knowledge in mechanical, electrical, hydraulics and/or pneumatics are a plus. We are a 24/7 operation with 12-hour schedules. Currently seeking Night Shift techs. Pay rate based on experience.
MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION
The maintenance technician maintains production, quality, and safety by ensuring operations of machinery and mechanical equipment or other specialized tasks.
Primary Job Functions:
Perform regularly scheduled preventive maintenance activities Repair and maintain the operating condition of machinery and equipment Performs proper diagnosis of electrical and mechanical equipment failure or malfunctions Assemble, install, or repair wiring/electrical or electronic components, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment Align and balance new equipment or equipment parts after installation, repair, or replacement Responds with appropriate reaction time to quickly prevent equipment malfunctions, diagnose problems, or make repairs Verify adequacy of repairs after maintenance tasks are complete Communicate effectively with department supervision/management on estimated downtimes due to maintenance issues Maintain equipment, parts, and supply inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level Documenting when parts are removed from supplies, anticipating needed equipment/parts/supplies Requesting the placement of orders and verifying correct receipt Documenting repairs and work performed to include the purpose for work performed, time taken, parts used, work performed, comments/notes, and any other relevant information Demonstrate, to the extent necessary, equipment function and features to machine operators Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations Any other responsibilities deemed necessary by maintenance supervisor/manager
Required:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50-75 lbs Ability to lift 20-35 lbs over head Ability to read and understand equipment, maintenance, and electrical related diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, maintenance manuals, manufacturers instructions, and engineering specifications Ability to troubleshoot machinery, mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment malfunctions thoroughly Ability to dismantle devices and equipment to remove, repair, or replace defective parts and rebuild devices and equipment to proper operating conditions Ability to use hand tools, power tools, electrical testing devices, and measuring instruments Ability to use machining equipment, cutting torches, and welders properly Effective communication skills to work with supervision and co-workers
Desired:
Advanced ability to use machining equipment, cutting torches, and welders to repair or fabricate machine parts Ability to effectively train/teach/educate equipment operators on equipment functionality and simple problem troubleshooting Knowledge of
ISO 9001
Experience:
3+ years experience working with and repairing mechanical/electrical equipment, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and motors within a manufacturing environment 2+ years experience working in an extrusion manufacturing environment preferred 5+ years experience working with hand tools, power tools, and electrical devices
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required Vocational or technical school or equivalent work experience preferred
Schedule Type:
Full-time, 12-hour shifts, alternating 36- and 48-hour weeks Additional requirements Applicants must be physically capable of standing for long periods of time and able to lift 50+ lbs.
