The Maintenance Mechanic performs mechanical and electrical repairs and preventive maintenance on food processing equipment, building utilities, and facility systems. This role ensures that all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably while complying with safety regulations and food manufacturing standards. Responsibilities Perform mechanical and electrical repairs on food processing equipment, building utilities, and facility systems to maintain optimal performance. Conduct preventive maintenance on machinery and facility systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using schematics and technical documentation. Diagnose and resolve problems with industrial equipment, including motors, conveyors, pumps, and related components. Use PLC troubleshooting techniques to identify and correct equipment control issues where applicable. Perform electrical maintenance and repairs, including wiring, component replacement, and system adjustments, while following safety standards. Assist with maintenance of building utilities, including HVAC, plumbing, and facility infrastructure as needed. Support waste water operations and ammonia refrigeration systems when qualified or directed. Follow established maintenance schedules and document all work performed in accordance with company procedures. Adhere to safety protocols and food manufacturing standards at all times, including proper use of personal protective equipment. Collaborate with production teams to plan and complete maintenance activities that support continuous operations. Respond to maintenance requests and equipment breakdowns promptly to reduce production interruptions. Work overtime and occasional weekend shifts as needed to support maintenance and production requirements. Climb ladders, bend, lift, twist, and perform other physical tasks necessary to access and repair equipment throughout the facility. Additional Skills & Qualifications Certification or experience in waste water operations. Certification or experience in ammonia refrigeration systems. HVAC Technician License. Basic plumbing knowledge. Basic welding knowledge. Experience with food manufacturing equipment and processes. Forklift operator certification and experience. Advanced skills in reading and interpreting electrical drawings and schematics. Familiarity with electrical troubleshooting tools such as multi-meters, voltage testers, and amperage testers. Work Environment This position is based in an indoor manufacturing facility with regular exposure to machinery, operational noise, and varying temperatures. The role requires strict adherence to safety protocols and consistent use of personal protective equipment. You will spend much of the day standing and walking on concrete floors, and you will frequently bend, lift up to 50 pounds, twist, and climb ladders up to 30 feet to access equipment. The position is full-time, with standard working hours and the possibility of overtime and weekend shifts to support maintenance and production needs. Work is hands-on and physically active, in a setting focused on safe and efficient food manufacturing operations. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Ayer, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $83200.00/yr.
