Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving complex industrial equipment in a high-volume brick manufacturing environment. You will work with large industrial boilers, kilns, d-hack machines, railcars, and other coal-fired production machinery that rely on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. The position requires a multi-craft maintenance professional who can support both mechanical and electrical needs, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient production operations. Responsibilities Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment, automated PLCs, robots, and computer-controlled systems that support production operations. Perform electrical troubleshooting and repairs on industrial equipment, including diagnosing and resolving issues with 480V three-phase motors and controls. Bend and install conduit, and perform industrial wiring tasks such as wiring transformers, load centers, motors, and related components. Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and schematic drawings with limited supervision to diagnose faults and plan repairs. Perform mechanical repairs including replacing bearings, gearboxes, and other mechanical components, as well as conducting welding tasks as needed. Carry out preventive maintenance on boilers, kilns, d-hack machines, railcars, and other industrial machinery to reduce downtime and extend equipment life. Use a meter to read AC/DC voltage, check continuity, and verify proper operation of electrical circuits and components. Troubleshoot and replace three-phase 480V motors safely and efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to production. Diagnose and repair issues in hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including cylinders, valves, hoses, and related components. Support process improvement initiatives by identifying recurring issues, proposing solutions, and implementing improvements to equipment reliability and performance. Work in a fast-paced production environment, responding quickly to equipment failures and prioritizing repairs to support continuous operations. Independently troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues, especially during night shifts when fewer resources may be available. Participate in safety training and adhere to all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe work practices. Collaborate with other technicians and production staff to coordinate repairs, share knowledge, and ensure efficient operation of equipment. Document maintenance activities, repairs, and modifications to equipment as required by site procedures. Assist with installation, setup, and commissioning of new or refurbished machinery and equipment. Support training of new team members by sharing knowledge of daily routines, equipment operation, and troubleshooting techniques. Essential Skills Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial machines, ideally 5+ years, with flexibility depending on overall experience and skill level. Strong mechanical aptitude with experience breaking down machines mechanically, including disassembly, repair, and reassembly. Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including reading AC/DC voltage on a meter and checking continuity. Ability to troubleshoot and replace three-phase 480V motors and associated controls. Hands-on experience with conduit replacement and installation, including bending and routing conduit in an industrial setting. Understanding of industrial wiring practices, including wiring of transformers, load centers, motors, and control circuits. Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and schematic drawings with limited supervision. Experience with mechanical repairs such as replacing bearings, gearboxes, and other rotating or moving components. Competence in welding for maintenance and repair tasks. Experience with hydraulic systems, including understanding of how hydraulic components operate and how to troubleshoot them. Experience with pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and repairing pneumatic circuits and components. Demonstrated ability to perform preventive maintenance on industrial equipment. Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial production environment. Ability to troubleshoot equipment independently, particularly on night shifts. Basic familiarity with PLC troubleshooting for identifying and resolving control-related issues. Experience with industrial maintenance, including mechanical troubleshooting, machine repair, and maintenance repair activities. Additional Skills & Qualifications PLC troubleshooting experience is a strong plus, particularly in automated and computer-controlled production environments. Experience with panel wiring and understanding of control panel layouts and components. Ability to interpret detailed schematics and wiring diagrams accurately. Background as a Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Mechanic, or Installation Technician is highly relevant. Experience working with robots and automated production systems is beneficial. Comfort working as part of a multi-craft maintenance team handling both mechanical and electrical responsibilities. Willingness to participate in structured training, including safety training and on-the-job learning alongside experienced technicians. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving equipment issues. Good communication skills to coordinate with other technicians and production staff. Work Environment The work environment is a heavy industrial brick manufacturing facility with large coal-fired boilers, kilns, d-hack machines, railcars, and other production machinery. The plant is not climate controlled, and the atmosphere can be dusty, with employees working both indoors and outdoors on a daily basis. Technicians should expect to get dirty and have soiled work clothes at the end of each shift. The role operates on a 2-2-3 schedule at Plant 5, with day shifts running from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and night shifts running from 6:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Work involves regular use of tools and test equipment for electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, including meters for reading AC/DC voltage and checking continuity. Personal protective equipment is required and includes steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, safety helmet, safety vest, and ear protection in designated areas. New hires receive initial safety training and then work alongside experienced technicians to learn daily routines, equipment operation, and site-specific procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Madison, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $64480.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
