G&L Davis Meat Co., Inc., makers of the famous Gianelli Sausage, are seeking a qualified Maintenance Mechanic for their North Syracuse, NY food plant.
JOB SUMMARY
As a Maintenance Technician at G&L Davis Meat Co , you will keep production equipment and facility systems running safely and reliably. You'll perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot breakdowns, repair machinery, and help maintain compliance with plant safety and food-safety requirements. This role supports uninterrupted manufacturing by responding quickly to equipment issues and maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Job Duties Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on production equipment (as scheduled) Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic/hydraulic, and basic control system issues Inspect equipment for wear, leaks, abnormal noise/vibration, and unsafe conditions Diagnose root causes of recurring equipment problems and help prevent repeat failures Install, replace, and adjust machinery components as needed (bearings, motors, conveyors, belts, sensors, valves, etc.) Maintain facility systems , which may include: HVAC and refrigeration support Compressed air (if applicable) Plumbing/drain systems Electrical troubleshooting/support General building/utility repairs Support production during downtime by responding quickly and coordinating with leads/supervisors Maintain tools and equipment , keeping work areas organized and safe Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) and all plant safety procedures Complete documentation such as work orders, repair logs, and inspection/PM records Comply with GMP/food safety expectations , including sanitation rules and proper cleaning after maintenance activities Assist with new installs/changes or upgrades to machinery/processes as needed Other Duties (Non-Essential Functions) May order repair parts, create purchase orders and authorize invoices.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry with perishable raw materials. College or Technical education for accredited institutions preferred, Journeyman's training is beneficial. Basic forklift (stand and sit) and pallet jack maintenance. Prior experience with food processing equipment preferred. Basic PLC/Motor controls/VFD knowledge, Allen Bradley, Siemens &GE Fanuc. Strong knowledge of conveyor metal detection and X-ray systems. Ability to troubleshoot labeling and taping equipment. Able to maintain confidential information Experience with tooling and basic machine shop equipment. Knowledge of maintenance work order systems. Understanding of compressed air systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Regularly traverses production floor to repair equipment which may require working on elevated surfaces or confined spaces. Ability to regularly operate a telephone, computer, copier, fax machine; ability to communicate via these devices as well as in person. Regularly traverses manufacturing and shipping areas to monitor staff and resolve logistical issues.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work in a manufacturing/production plant Exposure to noise, odors, wet/slippery floors, cold rooms (possible), and industrial shop hazards Must wear required PPE (safety glasses/boots/gloves/hearing protection as required)
