Job Description

Position Overview The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining Ducworks' production equipment, facility systems, and support equipment to maximize reliability, safety, and operational uptime. This position owns and maintains the company's preventive maintenance program while performing troubleshooting, repairs, improvements, and maintenance projects in support of production objectives. The Maintenance Technician works independently while maintaining regular communication with the Operations Manager regarding priorities, progress, challenges, and completed work. This position coordinates maintenance activities with Production Supervisors, operators, and other departments to support company objectives. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and the ability to balance immediate equipment needs with long-term reliability improvements.

Operations Manager Equipment Maintenance & Repair Purpose:
Maintain production equipment and facility systems in safe and reliable operating condition by troubleshooting problems, performing repairs, and restoring equipment to service.
Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot and repair production equipment using mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and industrial maintenance skills.
  • Diagnose equipment problems, identify root causes, repair or replace components, test operation, and make necessary adjustments.
  • Perform corrective repairs and emergency response activities to minimize production downtime.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, schematics, work orders, and technical documentation to support maintenance activities.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, electrical meters, material handling equipment, and other maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
  • Utilize manual machining equipment, including mills and lathes, and welding/cutting equipment as needed to fabricate, modify, or repair maintenance-related components.
  • Identify faulty equipment operation, defective components, and unusual conditions and communicate concerns to appropriate personnel.
Preventive Maintenance Program Purpose:
Develop and maintain a proactive maintenance program that improves equipment reliability, reduces unexpected downtime, and extends the useful life of Ducworks' production equipment, facility systems, and support assets.
Responsibilities:
  • Own and maintain Ducworks' preventive maintenance program by establishing schedules, coordinating internal resources and outside vendors when appropriate, maintaining records, and identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance activities including inspections, lubrication, fluid service, adjustments, component replacement, and other routine maintenance tasks.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on facility utility equipment, including compressors and related systems, according to manufacturer recommendations and established maintenance intervals.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed repairs, inspections, preventive maintenance activities, parts used, and unresolved equipment concerns.
  • Review maintenance history and identify recurring equipment issues or opportunities for improvement.
  • Recommend repairs, upgrades, or improvements that enhance equipment reliability, safety, and operational performance.
  • Maintain an appropriate inventory of commonly used maintenance supplies, consumable items, and replacement parts needed to support equipment reliability while balancing equipment availability needs with responsible inventory management and following Ducworks' Purchasing Approval Decision Tree.
Equipment, Vehicle & Facility Maintenance Purpose:
Maintain Ducworks' facilities and support equipment necessary for safe and efficient daily operations. Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on forklifts and other maintenance-supported equipment.
  • Provide assistance with fleet vehicle maintenance as requested by vehicle owners or department managers.
  • Monitor equipment condition and coordinate major repairs, specialized services, and equipment overhauls with outside vendors when work exceeds internal capabilities.
  • Coordinate with vendors for major repairs, specialized services, and equipment overhauls while keeping the Operations Manager informed of scope, cost, and expected impacts.
  • Perform general facility maintenance activities including plumbing, carpentry, and other building-related repairs.
  • Maintain organized maintenance work areas, including designated spare parts storage areas, workbenches, tools, and equipment located throughout Ducworks facilities.
  • Support facility improvement projects as needed.
Production Support & Communication Purpose:
Coordinate maintenance activities with Operations and Production to minimize downtime, support company priorities, and improve equipment reliability through effective communication and teamwork. Responsibilities
  • Prioritize maintenance activities with the Operations Manager while considering safety, production impact, equipment reliability, and operational needs.
  • Respond to equipment issues and provide timely support to production personnel.
  • Provide timely communication regarding assigned maintenance activities, including status updates, delays, resource needs, and completion of work.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication through established Ducworks communication methods, including Microsoft Teams, email, and other applicable systems.
  • Document maintenance activities and communicate completed work in a manner that allows Operations and affected departments to understand equipment status, outstanding issues, and next steps.
  • Support production personnel by providing guidance on basic equipment care, recognizing potential maintenance issues, and performing operator-level preventive maintenance activities when appropriate.
  • Communicate the status of current and future maintenance projects, equipment concerns, and recommended improvements to management.
  • Work collaboratively with operators and production personnel to identify equipment problems and improve reliability.
  • Evaluate equipment condition and reliability concerns and provide recommendations regarding equipment replacement, upgrades, and long-term maintenance needs.
  • Provide technical recommendations related to equipment reliability, maintainability, and anticipated maintenance requirements to support capital equipment evaluations.
Safety & Quality Purpose:
Perform maintenance activities safely while supporting Ducworks' quality standards and operational requirements. Responsibilities
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures, including lockout/tagout requirements and safe equipment operation practices.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Identify and communicate unsafe conditions, equipment hazards, or potential risks to appropriate personnel.
  • Document maintenance activities accurately to support equipment history and reliability.
  • Support Ducworks' Quality Management System by maintaining equipment in a condition that supports consistent production and quality requirements.
  • Participate in safety training, toolbox meetings, and continuous improvement activities as required.
Additional Responsibilities Purpose:
Support Ducworks operations by applying technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and practical judgment to improve equipment reliability and support company needs. Responsibilities
  • Assist other departments with technical support, troubleshooting, and improvement projects when maintenance expertise is required.
  • Obtain vendor quotations for major repairs, equipment services, and maintenance-related purchases as needed in accordance with Ducworks' Purchasing Approval Decision Tree.
  • Evaluate vendor recommendations and provide input regarding repair options, cost, and long-term value.
  • Consider cost, long-term value, and operational impact when recommending repairs, spare parts, outside services, or equipment improvements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Operations Manager. Position Requirements
  • High school diploma/GED required; technical training, apprenticeship, or equivalent industrial maintenance experience preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing maintenance, industrial equipment repair, or related technical fields.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience troubleshooting industrial equipment and basic PLC-controlled systems preferred.
  • Basic HVAC experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, electrical meters, material handling equipment, and basic machining equipment.
  • Maintain required forklift certification or obtain certification within the required timeframe.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and driving record that conforms to Ducworks' Driver Acceptability Matrix when operating company vehicles.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating priorities with the Operations Manager and production personnel.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to provide timely updates, clearly communicate technical information, document completed work, and effectively use Microsoft Teams, email, and other Ducworks communication systems.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work outside normal business hours, including pre-shift, after-hours, or emergency response activities when required to support equipment reliability and production needs.
  • Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position.
Physical Requirements While performing this job, the employee regularly stands, walks, bends, kneels, crouches, climbs, reaches, and works in confined or elevated areas. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 70 pounds and occasionally move heavier objects using appropriate assistance or lifting equipment. The employee must be able to safely operate tools, equipment, and material-handling equipment necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
