Job Description
Description A commercial cable technician installs, maintains, and repairs structured network infrastructure for businesses, focusing on Cat5e/Cat6, fiber optics, and coaxial systems. Core duties include running cables, terminating connections, and testing signal integrity
Installation:
Run, lace, and route low-voltage cables through ceilings, walls, and raised floors using support structures like J-hooks and cable trays.Termination & Setup:
Punch down and terminate voice and data blocks, patch panels, and jacks; assist with server room and rack organization.Testing & Troubleshooting:
Use diagnostic meters and cable testers to measure signal strength, locate faults, and fix connectivity failures.Blueprint Reading:
Interpret architectural blueprints, construction drawings, and telecommunication schematics to plan cable paths.Compliance & Documentation:
Label cables accurately, update network documentation, and follow local fire and building safety codes. High school diploma or GED plus 3+ years of hands-on experience in commercial low-voltage or structured cabling.Technical Skills:
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, punch-down tools, and optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDR) or cable certifiers.Physical Demands:
Ability to lift up to 50-80 lbs, climb ladders or lifts, work in tight ceiling spaces, and distinguish wire color codes. These Techs will need to get/have and active OSHA 10, Lift, Fall Cert. Experience Level Intermediate Level Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Spartanburg, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
