$30.00-$40.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications Job Summary We are an established landscaping company seeking a dependable and experienced Fleet & Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair our company vehicles, construction equipment, and commercial landscaping equipment. This is a hands-on position working on a wide variety of equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience with both gasoline and diesel engines and be comfortable diagnosing problems, performing repairs, completing preventative maintenance, and maintaining accurate fleet maintenance records. This position will also be responsible for helping ensure our commercial vehicle fleet is properly maintained and documented for DOT compliance. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the maintenance, safety, organization, and reliability of our fleet and equipment. Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain gasoline and diesel pickup trucks and stake body trucks Service and repair skid steers and other compact construction equipment Maintain and repair commercial landscaping and lawn care equipment, including mowers, aerators, seeders, blowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and similar equipment Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, including oil and filter changes, fluid services, belts, hoses, batteries, and general inspections Diagnose and repair brake, suspension, steering, cooling, fuel, and electrical systems Troubleshoot gasoline and diesel engine problems Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems on construction and landscaping equipment Maintain and repair trailers, including brakes, bearings, lights, wiring, tires, and related components Identify developing mechanical problems and make repairs before they result in breakdowns or unnecessary downtime Perform seasonal inspections and preventative maintenance to keep vehicles and equipment ready for use Maintain accurate service, inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair records for all vehicles and equipment Track vehicle maintenance and repairs necessary for DOT compliance Maintain organized documentation of inspections, repairs, maintenance schedules, and vehicle service history Identify and address vehicle deficiencies that could affect DOT compliance or safe operation Assist in keeping DOT-regulated vehicles properly maintained and prepared for required inspections Maintain documentation necessary for DOT inspections, audits, and company records Monitor upcoming preventative maintenance and inspection requirements and schedule service as needed Keep the shop, tools, parts, and work areas clean and organized Assist with ordering and maintaining commonly used parts, fluids, filters, and maintenance supplies Coordinate outside repairs when specialized work is required Qualifications Previous professional experience as a fleet mechanic, diesel mechanic, equipment mechanic, automotive mechanic, or similar position Experience working on both gasoline and diesel engines Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills Experience with electrical troubleshooting and repair Experience with hydraulic systems preferred Experience with commercial landscaping equipment and small engines preferred Familiarity with DOT vehicle inspection, maintenance, and recordkeeping requirements Experience maintaining DOT-compliant fleet maintenance and repair records preferred Ability to maintain accurate and organized service and inspection records Ability to work independently and prioritize repairs based on operational needs Ability to safely operate trucks, trailers, skid steers, and other equipment Valid driver's license with a good driving record CDL is a plus but not required Welding and fabrication experience is a plus ASE or other mechanical certifications are a plus but not required What We're Looking For We are looking for more than someone who simply completes repairs as they are assigned. The successful candidate should be proactive about preventative maintenance, recognize potential problems before equipment fails, communicate clearly about needed repairs, and understand the importance of minimizing downtime during our busy season. Organization and recordkeeping are also important parts of this position. The mechanic will be expected to keep maintenance and repair records current and help ensure our commercial vehicles remain properly maintained and documented for DOT compliance. Because our equipment varies significantly, candidates should be comfortable working on everything from gas and diesel trucks and skid steers to commercial mowers and smaller landscaping equipment.
