$25-$30 per hour, based on experience and qualifications American Waste Systems is looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our team and help maintain and repair our fleet of commercial trucks and equipment. Our fleet includes roll-off trucks, trash trucks, street sweepers, portable toilet service trucks, trailers, and other commercial equipment. We are looking for someone with solid diesel mechanical experience who can diagnose problems, make repairs, work independently, and help keep our fleet safe and on the road. Responsibilities Diagnose, maintain, and repair diesel trucks and commercial equipment Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, brakes, electrical systems, transmissions, suspension, and other mechanical components Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems and components Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and routine repairs Identify problems and complete repairs efficiently to minimize equipment downtime Maintain accurate service and repair records Keep organized and accurate paperwork, receipts, and purchase orders (POs) Track parts purchases and make sure POs and repair documentation are completed properly Order parts and assist with maintaining shop inventory Keep the shop clean, organized, and safe Work with operations to prioritize repairs and keep trucks road-ready Handle occasional emergency or unexpected equipment repairs as needed Qualifications Previous experience as a diesel mechanic, truck mechanic, fleet mechanic, or heavy equipment mechanic Strong mechanical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills Knowledge of hydraulic systems Ability to diagnose and repair diesel-powered commercial vehicles and equipment Good organizational skills and attention to paperwork and PO tracking Dependable and able to manage repair priorities without constant supervision Valid driver's license CDL is a plus, but not required Preferred Experience Experience working on any of the following is a plus, but not required: Trash or refuse trucks Roll-off trucks Street sweepers Hydraulic-powered equipment Heavy equipment Commercial truck fleets Don't have trash truck or street sweeper experience? That's okay. We are willing to consider an experienced diesel mechanic with strong mechanical, diagnostic, and hydraulic skills who is willing to learn our equipment.
