Job Description

Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Bus Mechanic to join our dynamic transportation maintenance team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of buses and heavy equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. Your expertise will keep our vehicles in top condition, supporting smooth transit services and operational excellence. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive inspections of buses and heavy equipment, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, HVAC units, and other mechanical components. Diagnose issues using schematics, automotive diagnostics tools, and mechanical knowledge to identify root causes efficiently. Conduct repairs and maintenance on diesel engines, air brakes, shocks & struts, wheel alignments, tire service, welding, and general vehicle systems repair. Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and heavy lifting techniques to execute repairs accurately and safely. Fabricate parts or modify existing components as needed for equipment or vehicle repairs. Maintain detailed service records and documentation of all repairs performed on vehicles and equipment. Ensure compliance with safety standards such as OSHA regulations and industry best practices during all maintenance activities. Experience Proven mechanic experience with a focus on heavy trucks, buses, or industrial equipment. Dealership experience or background working with Caterpillar or similar heavy machinery is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance including transmissions, suspension systems, hydraulics, electrical systems repair, and diesel engine repair. Hands-on experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, or farm machinery is a plus. Familiarity with schematics for automotive electrical systems and hydraulic diagrams. Ability to perform automotive diagnostics using specialized tools and software. Experience with welding, fabrication techniques, and the use of hand tools for mechanical repairs. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with team members and drivers regarding vehicle conditions and repairs.
