The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) General Services Bureau (GSB) provides mail-room services, facility management services and security guard services for five hundred plus (500+) NMDOT customers. As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to received three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government. Why does the job exist? This position is responsible for maintenance and repairs for buildings and grounds at the New Mexico Department of Transportation's (NMDOT) General Office Complex. How does it get done? The primary responsibilities of this position will include: Performing a multitude of advanced tasks related to maintenance and repair. Performing complex maintenance tasks related to construction and carpentry including but not limited to masonry, painting, sand blasting, fencing, and concrete installation. Constructing, assembling, and repairing structures. Repairing/remodeling offices and buildings by repairing roofs, replacing floors, stairs and doors. Landscaping and grounds keeping. Inspecting buildings to make sure they are in good repair and are in compliance with building codes. Maintaining, repairing, and operating heavy equipment to perform various maintenance tasks. Who are the customers? All NMDOT employees and visitors to the General Office. Ideal Candidate All NMDOT employees and visitors to the General Office. Minimum Qualification High School Diploma or Equivalent and one (1) year of experience in general buildings and grounds maintenance, custodial duties, construction, or appliance repair. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is primarily indoors with occasional outdoor work required. Continuous standing, grasping. Frequent walking, bending, stooping, crouching, digging, shoveling, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders. Must be able to perform snow removal duties, as needed. Must drive a truck or van. Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions-hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow. Exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals and may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, rough/rugged terrain, noxious plants and infected trash, exposure to hazardous chemicals, insects and reptiles, loud noises, confined spaces, stressful situations, subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain,interaction with the public, state officials by phone and in person, irregular hours day or night, subject to call out for emergencies, heavy lifting, sitting/standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling for extended periods of time.
