Technician
  • Substation (Substation O&M Department) PowerSouth Energy Cooperative , headquartered in Andalusia, AL, is a generation and transmission (G&T) electric cooperative with 22 distribution members
  • 18 electric distribution systems and four municipal electric systems
  • in Alabama and northwest Florida.

JOB SUMMARY & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The purpose of this position is to perform installation, operation, repair and testing of equipment and systems in PowerSouth-owned substations. Candidates must demonstrate a potential for success in the Technician
  • Substation Training program by qualifying on an aptitude-based placement exercise and a behaviorally-based structured interview.
The incumbent must possess an Associate Degree in Industrial Electricity or Electronics. The incumbent must be able to obtain a CDL within eighteen (18) months (must be 21 to obtain CDL).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs and performs maintenance and testing of substation equipment (transformers, regulators, breakers, switches, instrument transformers, and other associated equipment). Provide routine inspection and care of substation facilities. Make minor repairs to substation facilities such as the repair of fences, erosion, etc. Take oil samples and perform oil tests on the same in a competent manner.
