Extensive overnight travel required Build Your Career in the Field A well-established, family-values-driven civil construction contractor is seeking an experienced Traveling Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic to support construction operations on projects throughout the United States. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled heavy equipment mechanic who enjoys working independently in the field, troubleshooting complex equipment issues, and taking ownership of repairs from diagnosis through completion. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of hands-on experience repairing heavy construction equipment , strong diagnostic capabilities, and the ability to rebuild major mechanical and hydraulic components. This is a traveling position, and overnight and weekend travel will be required based on project needs. What You'll Do As a Field Mechanic, you will play a critical role in keeping construction equipment and vehicles operating safely and efficiently across active job sites.

Responsibilities include:

Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy construction equipment and vehicles in field and shop environments. Perform complex mechanical repairs and train other team members on proper equipment repair and maintenance procedures. Tear down, repair, and rebuild engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, differentials, gearboxes, and undercarriage components . Use diagnostic equipment and troubleshooting techniques to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems. Operate equipment as necessary to diagnose problems and verify completed repairs. Maintain accurate repair documentation and open and manage work orders for equipment repairs. Coordinate and distribute repair workloads when needed. Lead shop or field maintenance functions when required, including personnel coordination, parts ordering, diagnostics, and repair quoting. Help ensure equipment is properly maintained to support safe, productive job-site operations. What We're Looking For 5+ years of related heavy construction equipment repair experience required. Strong experience diagnosing and repairing a wide variety of construction equipment. Demonstrated ability to rebuild engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, differentials/gearboxes, and undercarriage components. Strong knowledge of diagnostic tools and mechanical troubleshooting. Ability to independently lead and coordinate a variety of equipment repairs. Experience ordering parts, estimating repair needs, and coordinating shop or field maintenance activities. Valid Class A CDL required. DOT certification required. Must possess a comprehensive personal tool set necessary to perform mechanical repairs. Ability to work effectively in both active job-site and shop environments. Ability and willingness to travel extensively, including overnight travel and some weekends .
