Responsibilities Install new HVAC systems including air conditioning units, heating equipment, ventilation systems, and refrigeration components in accordance with schematics and design specifications. Perform routine maintenance on HVAC equipment to ensure optimal operation and prevent breakdowns. Diagnose electrical issues using diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters and troubleshoot electrical systems within HVAC units. Repair or replace faulty mechanical parts, compressors, thermostats, fans, pumps, valves, and other system components. Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and building automation system (BAS) controls to accurately diagnose issues. Conduct plumbing work related to HVAC systems such as condensate drain repairs or refrigerant line servicing. Maintain detailed service records, complete work orders promptly, and communicate effectively with clients about system performance and recommended repairs. Ensure all work complies with safety standards including EPA regulations for refrigerants and proper handling of ammonia refrigeration systems when applicable. Skills Proven experience in construction and property maintenance environments with a focus on HVAC system installation and repair. Strong mechanical knowledge of HVAC/R systems including boilers, air conditioning units, refrigeration equipment, and mechanical systems repair. Skilled in electrical diagnostics with the ability to troubleshoot electrical systems using appropriate tools like ohmmeters. Ability to read schematics accurately and interpret building automation systems for efficient troubleshooting. Hands-on experience with plumbing related to HVAC applications such as drainage or refrigerant piping. Familiarity with HVAC design principles to assist in system upgrades or new installations. Proficiency with hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, pipe cutters, and specialized diagnostic equipment. Knowledge of environmental regulations including EPA certification for refrigerant handling. Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with clients about system issues and solutions.
