Primary Job Function We are seeking an elite, well-rounded Journeyman HVAC Technician who brings a highly versatile array of trade skills to our team, seamlessly transitioning between advanced system diagnostics and full-scale equipment installations across residential and commercial environments. In this senior role, you will independently perform complex troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and mechanical alterations. You will serve as a respected job site leader, helping mentor junior team members, maintaining truck inventory, and ensuring all field work meets strict quality and safety standards.

Owner Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties Advanced Service Diagnostics & Commercial Systems Mastery Technical Troubleshooting:

Independently diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide range of residential, institutional, and commercial heating, cooling, and refrigeration units.

Commercial Systems Upkeep:

Inspect, repair, modify, and rebuild advanced components, including semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors and compressors for centrifugal refrigeration machines.

Pneumatics & Air Systems:

Maintain a solid operational understanding of air compressors and pneumatic controls alongside modern digital automation.

Hydronic & Boiler Diagnostics:

Test and examine boiler operations, observing meters and pressure gauges. Conduct boiler water quality tests/treatments, flush boilers, descale tubing, pack/lubricate pumps, and adjust burner combustion.

Flat-Rate Pricing Execution:

Confidently utilize our flat-rate catalog to quote and explain diagnostic and repair charges to clients prior to performing any work.

Equipment Commissioning:

Execute precision start-ups, component calibration, and performance testing on newly installed furnaces, air handlers, heat pumps, and condensing units.

Workmanship Standards:

Deliver precise, definitive mechanical fixes on every call to maintain an exceptionally low callback ratio.

Air Balancing & Performance:

Utilize specialized testing equipment (such as velometers or hoods) to perform air balancing diagnostics and calculate equipment efficiency and operating costs for clients.

Site Cleanliness:

Maintain an exceptionally neat, footprint-and-fingerprint-free work area inside the customer's property.

Lead Installation, Fabrication & Code Compliance Full System Turnkeys:

Lead and execute residential and light commercial system change-outs, running jobs from start to finish within the allocated labor budget.

Structural Builds & Layouts:

Accurately locate supply and return runs per mechanical plans, build structural equipment platforms, and ensure units are level and properly supported.

Ductwork & Piping:

Proficiently lay out, measure, and install main trunk lines, branch runs, and round/rectangular duct systems. Ensure all ductwork is correctly sealed and insulated to company standards.

System Execution:

Install copper tubing, securely braze and pressure-test refrigeration line sets, install and terminate exhaust fans/evaporative coolers, and rebuild temperature safety valves or water pumps.

Layout & Fabrication:

Demonstrate an advanced understanding of layout and design, including a working knowledge of fabricating basic and complex sheet metal fittings.

Electrical Controls:

Perform skilled electrical maintenance during repairs or installations. Exhibit strong proficiency in line and low-voltage wiring, timers, motors, control panels, relays, and transformers.

Codes & Compliance:

Understand, apply, and pass all applicable mechanical building codes, ordinances, and trade regulations.

Field Safety:

Safely operate tools and specialized field equipment (welder torches, vacuum pumps, etc.), complying with all safety rules while working confidently from tight spaces, scissors/genie lifts, 28-foot extension ladders, and 12-foot step ladders.

Leadership, Training & Inventory Control Mentorship:

Assist with the field training, instruction, and career development of apprentice technicians and helpers.

Stock Management:

Manage and maintain designated truck stock inventory levels on your assigned company vehicle to ensure a high "first-time fix" rate in the field. Properly store and secure field equipment, materials, and supplies.

Cost Efficiency:

Partner with office staff on ideas to minimize operational waste and reduce unnecessary department expenses.

Customer Communication & Strategic Sales Professional Communication:

Clearly explain technical problems, installation processes, and solutions to homeowners, business managers, facilities engineers, and general contractors.

Value-Added Options:

Inform and educate customers on additional comfort solutions, including maintenance contract renewals and protective upgrades.

Replacement Consultations:

Recommend system replacement as a viable option to expensive repairs when units are over 10 years old or require repairs exceeding $275.00.

Financial Controls:

Process, charge, and collect client payments for all completed field services per company guidelines.

Administrative & Workflow Tracking Daily Reporting:

Report directly to your first call of the day ready to work by your designated start time, and check in with the office immediately after each service call to update your progress.

Status Updates:

Keep your status updated in our dispatch software during each service call to trigger automated customer notifications.

Daily Documentation:

Complete and submit detailed job notes, job packets, material logs, change orders, time cards, and inventory records neatly and accurately before leaving each job site.

Physical Demands & Work Environment Physical Capabilities:

Ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, crawl, climb, reach above the head, manipulate mechanical components with fine dexterity, and safely lift, carry, push, or pull equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.

Working Conditions:

Must be comfortable working on residential homes, commercial facilities, and active construction sites, with regular exposure to moving machinery, outdoor elements, variable temperatures/humidity, confined spaces (crawlspaces/attics), and seasonal high-dust environments, fumes, or gases.

Job Requirements & Qualifications Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of documented HVAC journeyman-level experience executing both HVAC service diagnostics and full system installations (residential and commercial refrigeration/HVAC trade).

Education:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.

Language Skills:

Strong written and verbal English language skills with the ability to communicate effectively with today's consumers and follow complex technical instructions.

License:

Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record (required to operate the company vehicle).

Accountability:

Subject to regular quarterly performance evaluations to review safety, callback metrics, and technical progression.

Pay:
