About the Role We are seeking an experienced Head Service Technician - Senior Master Level to serve as the company's highest-level field technical resource. This is more than a senior technician role. The successful candidate will combine advanced HVAC/mechanical troubleshooting, field leadership, customer management, and technician development. You will handle complex service issues while helping raise the technical standards and capabilities of the entire service team.
Serve as the escalation point for complex and difficult HVAC/mechanical service calls. Diagnose and resolve recurring or challenging issues using root-cause troubleshooting rather than unnecessary component replacement. Troubleshoot and service chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, AHUs, RTUs, VRF/VRV, split systems, hydronic systems, and HVAC controls/BAS. Perform commissioning, startup, testing, and advanced electrical/controls troubleshooting. Interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics, sequences of operation, mechanical drawings, piping diagrams, specifications, and equipment submittals. Evaluate equipment condition and provide informed repair-versus-replacement recommendations. Support major/high-profile customer accounts and coordinate with controls vendors when required.
Team Development:
Provide technical direction and mentorship to apprentices, junior, and senior technicians. Conduct ride-alongs and help evaluate technician competency. Assist with technician training plans, advancement requirements, and technical training. Review complex service reports and diagnoses before major repairs are quoted. Help service management assign technicians based on skill level and job requirements. Establish and promote high standards for troubleshooting, documentation, safety, and workmanship.
Customer & Business:
Communicate technical issues and repair recommendations clearly to customers, building engineers, property managers, and facilities teams. Build strong, long-term customer relationships while identifying legitimate repair, replacement, upgrade, and maintenance opportunities. Provide accurate labor/material information for proposals and quotations. Maintain complete service documentation, including findings, readings, repairs, recommendations, and follow-up requirements.
Qualifications:
10+ years of commercial HVAC service experience preferred. Master-level troubleshooting and diagnostic ability. Strong experience with commercial HVAC/mechanical systems, electrical, and controls. EPA Universal Certification required.
OSHA SST
certification required. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Manufacturer certifications and applicable trade licenses strongly preferred. Strong communication, customer service, leadership, and mentoring skills. Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions in the field. What We're Looking For? What Success Looks Like:
Performance will be measured by first-time resolution, callback rate, technical quality, customer satisfaction, safety, documentation, technician development, productivity, and profitability—not simply the number of calls completed.

$50.00 - $80.00 per hour
