This role is responsible for developing and implementing tooling, fixtures, equipment, manufacturing processes, and engineering solutions that improve safety, quality, productivity, and scalability throughout the facility. The Engineer will work closely with manufacturing, quality, operations, suppliers, and customers to support both existing production programs and new product development initiatives. Responsibilities include tooling and fixture design, process development, equipment implementation, automation projects, root cause analysis, continuous improvement, and technical project leadership. This position requires a hands-on engineer who is equally comfortable on the manufacturing floor, in front of a CAD workstation, and leading cross-functional projects. The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with practical manufacturing experience and the ability to drive projects from concept through implementation. This position is based primarily on-site at our manufacturing facility in San Diego, California. Occasional travel to customer and supplier locations may be required. Key Responsibilities Mechanical Design & Tooling Engineering Design, develop, and implement production tooling, fixtures, jigs, and manufacturing aids to improve safety, quality, and efficiency. Create and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and technical documentation. Evaluate existing manufacturing equipment and processes to identify opportunities for improvement, automation, and increased capability. Support the design, modification, and integration of manufacturing equipment and production systems. Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), tolerance analysis, and GD&T principles to improve product and process performance. Collaborate with suppliers, machine builders, and toolmakers to develop and qualify tooling and equipment solutions. Project Engineering & Technical Leadership Lead engineering projects including capital equipment implementation, process improvements, automation initiatives, facility upgrades, tooling development, and new product introductions. Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, risk assessments, and implementation strategies. Coordinate activities across engineering, manufacturing, quality, maintenance, supply chain, and external partners. Manage project execution from concept through installation, validation, and production handoff. Provide technical leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams to ensure successful project outcomes. Manufacturing Engineering & Process Development Develop, optimize, and document manufacturing processes for lamination, die cutting, film converting, assembly, injection molding, and related operations. Lead process improvement initiatives focused on increasing throughput, reducing scrap, improving quality, and lowering operating costs. Support manufacturing readiness activities, including process validation, capability studies, work instructions, and operator training. Analyze production and quality data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities. Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and lead corrective and preventive action efforts. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. 5+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing, product development, tooling design, manufacturing engineering, automation, or related fields. Demonstrated experience leading engineering projects from concept through implementation. Experience with project management tools such as Microsoft Project or equivalent. Proficiency with CAD software and engineering drawing creation. Experience designing tooling, fixtures, workholding systems, production equipment, or automated manufacturing solutions. Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, engineering drawings, and dimensional inspection methods. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication, organizational, and project leadership abilities. Preferred Qualifications Experience specifying, purchasing, and implementing capital equipment. Knowledge of process validation, statistical analysis, and process capability methodologies. Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, PMP, or related certifications. Experience within injection molding manufacturing environments.
