Job Overview Commercial Plumber / Boiler Installer — Journeyman Level Big Boy Mechanical & Plumbing LLC

• Ridgefield Park, NJ

• Full-time Based on skills and experience, plus overtime About us Big Boy Mechanical & Plumbing is a family-run plumbing and mechanical contractor serving general contractors, property managers and co-op boards across North and Central Jersey and NYC. Our projects include restaurant and retail fit-outs, club and institutional buildings, and boiler and hot-water plant replacements in high-rise residential buildings. We're looking for an experienced journeyman who can lay out work, handle commercial installations, troubleshoot boiler systems and take pride in a clean, well-executed job. What you'll do Install commercial plumbing on fit-out jobs, including underground piping, waste and vent, domestic water, fixtures and trim-out. Install gas piping, including medium- and high-pressure systems, meter sets, building mains and burner gas trains. Replace boiler plants and commercial water-heater systems, including setting equipment and installing near-boiler, hydronic heating, domestic hot-water and recirculation piping. Troubleshoot boiler and burner systems, diagnose controls issues, perform burner setup and commission installed equipment. Pipe booster pumps, backflow preventers, mixing valves and water treatment equipment. Read plumbing drawings and specifications, lay out your work and flag conflicts before they turn into rework. Coordinate with GC superintendents and building staff, maintain a clean jobsite and prepare work for inspection. Lead a helper or apprentice when the job calls for it. What we're looking for At least five years working at journeyman level , in addition to the apprenticeship or field experience required to reach that level. Strong commercial plumbing skills and working knowledge of the NJ plumbing code (NSPC) and applicable fuel gas requirements. Hands-on experience with copper soldering, brazing and press systems; cast iron; PVC; CPVC; Uponor; threaded black steel; and grooved piping. Hands-on boiler or commercial water-heater installation experience. Experience with boiler troubleshooting, controls, burner setup and commissioning is required. Ability to read blueprints and isometric drawings and work independently. A valid driver's license, reliable transportation to our Ridgefield Park shop and your own basic hand tools. NJ Master Plumber license not required for this position. Nice to have High-rise residential or co-op building experience. Working toward your NJ Master Plumber license—we offer training support and encourage professional growth. Pay and benefits Based on demonstrated skills and experience, plus overtime. Top-end pay for mechanics with strong commercial plumbing, boiler installation and troubleshooting skills who can independently lay out work and lead a helper. Paid major holidays. Paid vacation and sick time/PTO. Training support. Steady commercial work and room to grow into a foreman role. Company vehicle available for job travel and company expense cards provided. Job-related tolls, parking and mileage expenses covered, with paid work travel from the shop to jobsites and between jobsites. Schedule and reporting Regular daytime hours, with alternating weekends during peak seasons. Report to our Ridgefield Park shop for dispatch to jobsites.
