GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Semi-skilled maintenance work of City buildings, property and other facilities and equipment. This position specializes in athletic field maintenance, turf management, irrigation, and chemical application while also supporting general parks operations, skilled trade tasks, and seasonal programs. Individual works directly under the Parks Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs specialized athletic field maintenance duties, including mowing, aerating, vertical cutting, top dressing, edging, trimming, and weed abatement. Performs custodial duties. Serves as essential personnel during events. Assists in normal clean-up activities. Maintains City buildings, does minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work; paints buildings, benches, and tables. Keeps basic records of work performed, including time sheets, work checklists, safety reports, and work requests, Operates small tools and equipment such as self-propelled or riding mower, weed eater, chainsaw, and floor cleaning machines. Operates heavy equipment. Handles work orders. Works with customers on complaints. (These essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to work. Knowledge of shop mathematics and basic record keeping practices. Knowledge of basic painting, plumbing and tools and techniques. Knowledge of sprinkler and irrigation systems, of application of fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. Knowledge of general repair and maintenance techniques to keep buildings, playground equipment and facilities in good repair. Ability to perform manual labor, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.
Depending upon assignment:
Ability to work long and/or late nights and early mornings. Knowledge of the equipment, tools, and supplies required to accomplish all operations. Ability to read, write and follow directions Knowledge of City requirements in safety and operations. Knowledge of equipment and maintenance. Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school graduation required.
  • Two (2) years of experience in athletic field maintenance, turf management, or a related field.
  • Degree or certification in Turf Management, Sports Field Management, or related field preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid Florida's Driver's License
  • Ability to obtain Ornamental & Turf Applicator License and Florida GI-BMP License within six (6) months of hire.
CHEMICAL APPLICATION & TURF HEALTH
  • Utilizes Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques in the cultivation and maintenance of natural turf surfaces.
  • Applies fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides in accordance with State of Florida regulations and departmental procedures.
  • Identifies turf pests, weeds, and diseases and implements corrective or preventative treatment measures.
  • Ensures safe handling, storage, calibration, and application of chemicals and equipment.
