The purpose of the class is to perform routine manual work. This class is responsible for service work such as digging trenches, cleaning ditches; assists with installation of fixtures such as pipes, valves, fittings, and manholes; landscape, road, sidewalk, driveway restoration and other outdoor work. Completes logs or routine records. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision. Operates vehicles such as trucks to transport people or material to job sites. Loads and unloads materials such as gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals, or other materials, tools, and equipment. Maintains outdoor areas by cutting grass, pruning trees and bushes, raking leaves and debris, installing landscape material, and other maintenance tasks. Performs utility service work such as digging trenches, cleaning ditches; assists with installation of fixtures such as pipes, manholes, and sewer lines. Performs maintenance functions such as repairing irrigation, greasing pumps, motors, and shafts, and replacing valves; performs light repairs and installations as directed. Maintains indoor areas such as cleaning facilities and indoor areas, performing light maintenance such as painting and minor repairs. Assists the public by answering questions and providing routine information. Performs clerical tasks such as completing work orders or maintaining logs. Compares or inspects items against a standard. Follows oral and written directions; communication effectively in both oral and written form of supervisor Makes a few decisions, affecting only the individual. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public; and applying safe work practices. Previous experience working in a ground's maintenance position preferred, but not required. Employee will receive on the job training. General knowledge of computer usage preferred. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. May be required to acquire and maintain a specific applicators license. Attends unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions. Performs other related duties as assigned for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
