Job Description

Job Summary:
The Maintenance Worker is a non-exempt employee responsible for the general upkeep, repair, and maintenance of the retreat center's buildings, grounds, and facilities. This role ensures that the retreat center remains a safe, clean, and functional environment for all guests, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the sacred and peaceful atmosphere of the center.
Key Responsibilities Facility Maintenance :
Perform routine maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC repairs to ensure all facilities are in good working order.
Groundskeeping :
Remove snow, ice, and garbage for the monastery.
Preventive Maintenance :
Respond to work orders, conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of buildings and equipment to identify potential issues and address them proactively.
Safety & Compliance :
Ensure that all maintenance work adheres to safety standards and regulations. Identify and address any potential safety hazards on the property.
Inventory Management :
Monitor and manage inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment, and notify the Facilities Manager when reordering is necessary.
Emergency Response :
Respond promptly to maintenance emergencies during and outside of regular working hours as needed.
Collaboration :
Work closely with other staff members, including the Facilities Manager, housekeeping, and administrative staff, to ensure smooth operation of the retreat center.
Spiritual Sensitivity :
Respect the spiritual environment of the retreat center, ensuring that work is conducted in a way that does not disrupt the peace and sanctity of the space.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Proven experience in maintenance work, preferably in a similar setting. Strong knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems. Ability to operate maintenance tools and equipment safely and effectively. Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and perform manual labor. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and be on-call as needed. Understanding and respect for the Catholic faith and values.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a religious or retreat setting. Vocational training or certification in a relevant trade.
Working Conditions:
The role involves physical labor, working indoors and outdoors, and being exposed to various weather conditions. The Maintenance Worker may need to work flexible hours, including weekends, early mornings, and evenings, to meet the needs of the retreat center.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
