This is an entry-level opportunity performing a variety of maintenance and repair work that helps keep Grandview's streets, sidewalks, trails, drainage systems, and other public infrastructure safe and well maintained.   • Streets, your responsibilities will include: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on streets, sidewalks, trails, storm structures, and other City infrastructure Repair potholes, seal street cracks, and assist with larger street repair projects Perform asphalt and concrete removal, placement, maintenance, and repair Clean streets, storm drains, and drainage ditches and remove debris or obstructions Mow, cut weeds, trim trees, sweep, excavate, and perform other general maintenance activities Operate light• medium• and heavy-duty equipment and perform required pre-operation inspections Assist with traffic sign, streetlight, traffic light, and street banner installation and maintenance Assist with street and parking lot striping Transport personnel, equipment, and materials Respond to emergency situations by setting barricades, clearing streets, and assisting other emergency responders Perform snow and ice control operations during winter weather events Complete daily reports, inspection forms, utility locates, and other required documentation Assist with general maintenance of the Public Works facility Perform other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED Ability to read and write at a level necessary to successfully perform the position Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsements within 90 days of employment Ability and willingness to work outdoors and perform physically demanding work Availability to participate in the City's on-call rotation for a minimum of one week per month Availability for all snow events , which may require 12-hour shifts Preferred Qualifications It's a plus if you have: Four to nine months of vocational or technical training related to street maintenance One year of related maintenance, construction, public works, or similar experience A current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Don't meet every preferred qualification? Physical & Work Requirements This is an active, hands-on position performed primarily in the field.
Employees must be able to:
Regularly perform moderate to heavy physical work Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, and work in a variety of positions Lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing approximately 20-50 pounds Work around traffic, machinery, construction equipment, and other potentially uncomfortable or hazardous conditions Work in confined spaces and climb ladders when necessary Safely operate hand tools, power tools, vehicles, and construction equipment Work outdoors in varying weather conditions Equipment used may include snowplows, jackhammers, chainsaws, aerial lift trucks, heavy equipment, shovels, picks, rakes, tampers, and other tools and machinery.
