Job Description

Overview Employees in this class perform many types of semi-skilled tasks in connection with maintenance of park areas and recreation facilities including buildings and grounds, athletic fields, skating rinks and motorized vehicles & equipment. Work requires general knowledge in the trade skills. Specific instructions for required daily routine tasks are received from management and/or the Senior Park Technician. The incumbent is required to operate a variety of motorized equipment and power tools and does related work as required. May assist in the supervision of seasonal staff. Does related work as required. Responsibilities Maintains and repairs recreational equipment including picnic tables, rowboats, park signs and athletic apparatus; Performs general groundskeeping maintenance such as mowing lawns, planting, and trimming trees, shrubs, flowers and other plants; Maintains and grooms nature and cross-country ski trails, athletic fields and skating rinks; Performs electrical, plumbing and carpentry repair to buildings such as installing light fixtures, unclogging drains and repairing doors/windows; Performs vehicle maintenance and conducts a check list inspection on trucks, tractors, mowers, etc., for such things as fluid levels, lubrications and tire conditions; Operates trucks, tractors, mowers and other types of motor equipment for miscellaneous tasks; Operates manual and power tools used in carpentry, plumbing, painting and cement work; Plows and removes snow and ice from parking lots, skating rinks, and sidewalks; Performs general park preparation and clean-up such as cleaning bathrooms, emptying grills and picking up litter; Performs periodic motor equipment maintenance. Requirements Good knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and accident precautions used in the maintenance and repair of recreational buildings, grounds and equipment; Good knowledge of basic mechanics in order to visually appraise vehicles and detect problems; Skill in the operation of motor equipment and power tools; Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions; Ability to perform recreational maintenance work; Ability to perform work requiring strenuous effort; Mechanical aptitude;
Pay:
$22.51 - $22.52 per hour
