This role is responsible for ensuring the continuous airworthiness of company aircraft, regulatory compliance, accurate record-keeping, and minimal downtime so that flight training operations remain safe and reliable. The ideal candidate will hold a current FAA Inspection Authorization and bring solid general aviation experience, preferably in a flight-school or high-utilization piston-aircraft environment. Key Responsibilities Plan, schedule, perform and oversee all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections (100-hour, Annual), repairs and alterations in accordance with 14 CFR Part 43, manufacturer data, Airworthiness Directives, Service Bulletins, and company procedures. Exercise Inspection Authorization privileges to conduct and approve annual inspections, major repairs and alterations, and return aircraft to service. Maintain complete, accurate, and current aircraft logbooks, squawks, AD compliance records, and all required maintenance documentation. Develop and manage an effective maintenance tracking system to forecast inspections, component times, and life-limited parts so aircraft remain available for training. Minimize impact of maintenance on the flight schedule through proactive planning and clear communication with instructors, schedulers, and management. Manage parts, tooling, and hangar organization; ensure proper control, storage, and condition of equipment and materials. Supervise any maintenance personnel or contract technicians; provide training, quality oversight, and a strong safety culture. Serve as the primary point of contact with the FAA for maintenance matters, inspections, and audits. Address aircraft discrepancies (squawks) promptly and coordinate recovery or ferry arrangements when needed. Required Qualifications Current FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic Certificate. Current FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) — required. Must have practical experience as an active aircraft maintenance technician in general aviation. Demonstrated experience maintaining piston-engine general aviation aircraft (Cessna, Piper, or similar training fleet aircraft preferred). Strong working knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 43, 65, and 91, manufacturer maintenance manuals, and AD compliance processes. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, to support unexpected needs. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in a flight school, FBO, or other high-utilization general aviation operation preferred. Supervisory, lead mechanic, or prior Director/Assistant Director of Maintenance experience. Familiarity with digital maintenance tracking systems. Experience with Cessna and Piper single-engine aircraft.
