Maintenance Planner - John Deere Des Moines Works (Ankeny, IA) This is a long-term 2+ year contract opportunity paying up to $25/hr , including 1 week of PTO . Operating 100% onsite on 1st shift (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) in Ankeny, IA , you will schedule maintenance activities, track equipment work orders, organize replacement parts, and work directly alongside factory maintenance trades on the shop floor.
Position Details & Compensation Pay Rate:
Up to $25/hr (W2) .
Location:
100% Onsite at John Deere Des Moines Works ( Ankeny, IA ).
Duration:
2+ Years (Providing solid long-term contract stability).
Shift & Hours:
1st Shift (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with potential weekday or weekend overtime based on production demands).
~80% of time spent on your feet on the factory floor .
Safety Gear:
Metatarsal safety boots strictly required on Day 1 .
Plant & Local Travel:
May drive an indoor John Deere Gator within the connected factory complex (after completing Deere safety training) and drive personal vehicle to local Deere facilities within a 20-mile radius as needed.

Plan, schedule, and prioritize preventative and corrective maintenance work orders to minimize equipment downtime across the factory.
Parts & Materials Coordination:
Coordinate with supply management and tool cribs to ensure replacement parts, tools, and materials are staged and available prior to scheduled maintenance jobs.
Shop-Floor Execution Support:
Spend ~80% of the working day on the factory floor collaborating with maintenance supervisors, trades personnel, and operations teams to review job scopes and inspect equipment needs.
Work Order Data Entry & Tracking:
Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS/SAP) to create work orders, track equipment history, document completed jobs, and update maintenance schedules.
Continuous Improvement:
Assist in identifying recurring equipment failure trends and support process improvements related to machine reliability, safety, and shop-floor productivity.
Associate degree or relevant coursework in Industrial/Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical/Electrical Technology, or equivalent work-related maintenance/planning experience.
Computer & Analytical Literacy:
Strong proficiency in computer applications (MS Office, especially Excel) with the ability to quickly learn enterprise maintenance management systems (SAP/CMMS).
Factory & Physical Readiness:
Comfort working directly in a heavy manufacturing shop-floor environment, ability to spend ~80% of shift on your feet , and willingness to wear metatarsal safety boots on Day 1 .
Soft Skills:
Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively collaborate across tradespeople, engineers, and plant managers.
