A Maintenance Planner improves workforce productivity and work quality of a maintenance organization by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through planning, scheduling, and coordination of labor, parts and material, and equipment access. Reports to Maintenance Manager and maintains liaison between Operations and Maintenance. Through supervision of the Maintenance Administrator, the planner is also responsible for maintenance of records and files essential to meaningful analysis and reporting of maintenance-related matters.

This individual will play a vital role in supporting the daily operation and upkeep of a dynamic academic environment. This is a temporary position through January 7, 2028. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Implements preventative maintenance plans for campus housing and facilities, ensuring timely resolution of issues ranging from general repairs to plumbing and painting Executes short-term and long-term projects such as student room upgrades, common area renovations, and special-use space improvements in collaboration with other RIT departments Utilizes work order systems to track maintenance requests, prioritize tasks, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards; assist maintenance and custodial mechanics as needed Coordinates with campus partners and community stakeholders to assess and address renovation, safety, and operational needs that support a functional and welcoming student environment Oversees day-to-day operations and event scheduling for designated facilities, acting as the primary point of contact for internal and external users and ensuring successful execution of events Acts as the primary facilities contact in the absence of the Associate Director, provide support to the on-call maintenance program, and respond to urgent facility-related incidents—including on-site response when required Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), plumbing, electrical, structural, and general repair systems, including preventative maintenance and facility lifecycle planning Skill in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or similar platforms to track work orders, manage priorities, and document repairs and preventive maintenance Skill in assessing urgent situations, making sound decisions quickly, and responding to facilities-related emergencies, particularly in a residential or student-centered environment Ability to assess urgent situations, make sound decisions quickly, and respond to facilities-related emergencies, particularly in a residential or student-centered environment Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute small- to medium-scale renovation and improvement projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and collaboration with contractors and campus partners Minimum Education & Experience Associate's degree in related field 7 years of related experience Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered Job Level Overview Operations, Administrative, Service, or Technical Support Level 4 - Advanced or lead role with deep subject matter expertise and/or functions as a formal or informal team lead. Leads challenging and non-routine tasks, assignments, and projects, often coordinating across teams and developing new methods or techniques. Mentors less experienced staff and reviews or delegates work.
