Group Reports To:
Service Operations Manager and works collaboratively with the Construction Program Manager, Account Managers, and Project Managers. Position Summary The Field Superintendent is the senior technical field leader responsible for managing field personnel and overseeing the quality and execution of Fire and Life Safety System projects. This role provides leadership, mentorship, and field oversight for approximately 20+ technicians, foremen, and inspectors. Serving as the company's subject matter expert, this position ensures all installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair work is completed safely, efficiently, and in strict compliance with company standards, customer specifications, NFPA codes, UFC criteria, and federal regulations. Key Responsibilities 1.
Team Leadership & Personnel Management Direct Supervision:
Manage, support, and evaluate approximately 25 technicians and inspectors assigned to various building contracts.
Performance Management:
Conduct routine field evaluations, ride-alongs, and formal annual performance reviews to ensure work meets company and client expectations.
Hiring & Onboarding:
Serve as a core member of the interview team to evaluate technical competency, code knowledge, and cultural fit.
Orientation:
Oversee onboarding for new hires, ensuring familiarity with company policies, behavioral expectations, and software tools.
Government Clearance:
Coordinate and track the status of Federal and Government customer site badging paperwork to ensure fluid team access to secure facilities.
Continuing Education:
Create, maintain, and perform all necessary training as needed for field staff operations. 2.
Technical Leadership & Quality Assurance Subject Matter Expert:
Act as the senior technical resource for complex fire alarm, fire sprinkler, fire pump, and special hazard systems.
Field Audits:
Perform regular QA/QC field audits and final quality inspections before customer turnover to minimize rework.
Code Compliance:
Verify all installations and maintenance comply with NFPA 13, 20, 25, 72, Uniform Facilities Criteria (UFC), IBC, IFC, and local AHJ requirements.
Documentation Review:
Review field inspection documentation and ServiceTrade data for accuracy and completeness, developing corrective action plans when deficiencies are found. 3.
Field Operations & Scheduling Coordination Resource Optimization:
Collaborate closely with the Account and Project Managers to optimize technician scheduling, workload balance, and resource allocation.
Project Progress:
Monitor active service sites to track productivity, resolve logistical or technical conflicts, and ensure projects remain on schedule.
Operational Software:
Utilize ServiceTrade field management software to oversee daily operations, optimize travel routes, and implement new technology.
Procedure Creation:
Assist Operations Manger with any updates to or the creation of any new Standers Operating Procedures. 4.
Financial & Administrative Management Earnings Feasibility:
Review estimates vs. actuals contract standings, participating in monthly project meetings for operational profitability review.
Payroll Review:
Approve and maintain weekly payroll processing for all assigned regional inspectors and technicians.
Financial Oversight:
Process and approve expenses for field equipment and materials, securing accurate use of company funds and reducing material waste. 5.
Workforce Training & Development Training Programs:
Conduct quarterly technical training sessions covering industry updates, troubleshooting, installation practices, and company updates.
Certification Growth:
Map out technician development plans, track NICET and manufacturer certification statuses, and request corporate funds for external programs. 6.
Safety & Compliance Safety Coordination:
Assist the Safety and Health Manager with Investigation of incidents/violations, ensure field personnel review monthly electronic toolbox talks, ensure PPE compliance
Safety Culture:
Promote a proactive safety culture, ensuring complete compliance with OSHA requirements and company safety policies.
Job Qualifications Experience & Education Industry Experience:
Minimum 10 years of experience in the Fire Protection industry (Fire Alarms, Sprinklers, Pumps, and Maintenance).
Leadership Experience:
Minimum 7 years of experience directly supervising field personnel, technicians, or subcontractors.
Sector Background:
Background working on Federal and General Services Administration (GSA) projects is highly preferred.
Certifications NICET:
Level III certification in Water-Based Systems or Fire Alarm Systems required (Level IV preferred).
Safety:
OSHA 30 certification preferred.
Licensing:
Applicable state licenses to the operating jurisdiction and manufacturer certifications. Required Skills Advanced technical troubleshooting of fire protection assets. Proficiency with ServiceTrade software and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent written, verbal, and conflict-resolution communication skills.
Pay:
$80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
