Leads a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled transportation maintenance activities. Reports to a maintenance section supervisor and assists in administration of the maintenance section. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
Assists during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs, and organize response of crews.

Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignmentsInspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.

Inspects work performed by maintenance contractors.

Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheetsOperates light and heavy equipmentOversees contract workers and coordinates applicable activitiesPerforms some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipmentServes as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
