The City of Hiawatha, Iowa is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Public Works Technician I. This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled activities related to maintaining and repairing streets, storm sewers, sanitation sewer collection systems and parks. Duties include but are not limited to: Maintain storm water and sanitary sewer infrastructures Maintain street signs and barricades Perform snow removal on streets, sidewalks, trails, and city owned parking lots Perform routine maintenance on all city equipment and vehicles Repair city streets, sidewalks, trails, buildings, and fences Have availability to respond to emergency situations outside of normal work hours Assist with park maintenance as directed Comply with Hiawatha safety rules and OSHA regulations Assist other City departments and perform other duties as directed Specific Qualifications Pre-employment physical, background check, and drug test required. Minimum High School diploma or GED Certificate and one year of construction, maintenance, equipment operation or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the just such as those listed above. Basic electrical knowledge is a plus. Ability to obtain a Class A, Iowa Intrastate Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with air brakes within 1 year of hire date Subject to the Iowa Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing program.
