SUMMARY:
Provides direct support at all escalation levels and coordination of resources to the support the physical and electronic components of physical security services such as security cameras, video management systems, access control systems, visitor management, fire, alarm, intrusion detection, and other school safety systems. This involves ensuring timely response to reported issues, routine system monitoring and integration with district incident and crisis management plans, project oversight, and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and District standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in low voltage systems, strong customer & technical skills, and the ability to work independently and as a team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills. Partners with Emergency Management & School Safety Staff on development and implementation of systems and standards. Partners with Assistant Director of Buildings & Grounds, along with Buildings & Grounds staff, to successfully develop, implement, and maintain systems and standards. Ability to install, program, configure and service a variety of video surveillance, access control, intruder detection, Public Announcement, and radio communications systems. Install cable and pathways effectively and timely meeting quality expectations. Terminate and test voice, video and data cables. Ability to organize/lead projects in the field and report back to project manager. Ability to give instruction on project job duties to team members assigned to the job. Ability to communicate with and attend end-user meetings both on-site and in the office. Maintains job site appearance (neatness and cleanliness). Coaches, trains, and supports continuous improvement for team members. Installs, maintains, and supports district software and district standards. Resolves current and prevents future computer, printing, and network failures related to physical security. Monitors physical security systems and collaborates with departments regarding general system health. Supports school safety audit requirements. Maintains system and device inventory and management to district standards Connects with users to collect information about physical security problems and technical issues; leads users, in person or remotely, through diagnostic procedures to determine source of error. Defines incidents & problems, identifies and isolates errors, and implements technical solutions within guidelines, procedures, and authorization, to solve problems. Uses approved tools, equipment and procedures to repair systems, equipment and peripheral devices. Identifies technical problems which need to be addressed by improved policies and procedures. Maintains and enforces all aspects of confidentiality of records and information. Provides technical assistance, support, and training. Promotes and supports the overall mission of the District by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:
Associate's degree in computer technology, security, or a closely related field. Specific industry training related to physical security systems, horizontal cabling, computer technology. Three (3) years of physical security technical systems experience. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation. Driver's license. Certifications in low voltage cabling or physical security preferred (Eg.
ASIS-PSP
). A successful candidate should be able to complete pertinent certifications for installed systems within the first year of employment as coordinated with their supervisor. Must be able to successfully complete and maintain personnel lift certification. Required Knowledge and Skills
Required Knowledge:
Apply physical security principles and concepts to everyday practices. Troubleshooting techniques for computer & physical hardware, software and peripheral equipment. Technical support principles, processes, and standards. Instructional technology equipment setup procedures and maintenance standards. Software applications and operating systems used at Hopkins, including Microsoft Windows and Apple MacOS. Principles and protocols for the management of electronic information. Technology access policies, and data security protocols. District policies and procedures. Computer applications related to the work. Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Required Skills:
Diagnosing and resolving technical problems in a network environment. Assessing customer support needs and implementing effective solutions. Using basic tools and procedures for repairing computers and equipment. Installing, repairing, and maintaining computer software, hardware, and peripherals in a multiple operating system environment. Installing, repairing, and maintaining physical security software, hardware, and peripherals in a multiple operating system environment. Analyzing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Operating a personal computer using standard and specialized software. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work is performed in a standard office environment as well as outside which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes, equipment up to 50 pounds or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Must be able to navigate active construction and maintenance areas. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage. Requires vision capacity to perform fine calibrations and differentiate between colored wires. Requires hand and body dexterity to perform fine connections in small spaces. Must be able to climb a ladder, use a lift, and work in various weather conditions.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office or school setting as well as outside. Frequent travel required to locations throughout the District.
