Overview The Small Engine & Equipment Service Technician at Precision is responsible for maintaining and repairing the company's small engines, equipment, and service vehicles. This includes diagnosing and repairing mowers, chainsaws, small compactors, and other power equipment, as well as completing oil changes and basic preventive maintenance on service trucks. This person will keep our teams productive by proactively identifying equipment issues, completing repairs efficiently, tracking maintenance, and communicating equipment needs to management and team members. The Small Engine & Equipment Service Technician will provide practical solutions, troubleshoot mechanical problems, maintain a safe and organized work area, and help ensure our equipment is reliable and ready for use. Duties Maintain and repair mowers, chainsaws, blowers, small compactors, and other small-engine equipment to keep crews productive and minimize downtime. Perform routine preventive maintenance on service trucks, including oil and filter changes, fluid checks, and basic inspections. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, fuel-system, and starting-system problems accurately and complete repairs efficiently. Develop and maintain a preventive-maintenance schedule for small equipment and company vehicles. Inspect equipment regularly to identify worn, damaged, or unsafe components before failures occur. Prioritize repair and maintenance work according to operational needs and communicate expected completion times to supervisors and crew members. Track all inspections, maintenance, repairs, parts, materials, labor time, and equipment costs. Maintain appropriate inventories of commonly used parts, fluids, filters, and shop supplies. Order required parts and materials while following approved purchasing and budget guidelines. Test repaired equipment to confirm that it operates safely, reliably, and according to manufacturer specifications. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop, service area, and parts-storage area. Follow all required daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal maintenance procedures. Provide end-of-day updates regarding completed repairs, equipment status, parts orders, and outstanding maintenance needs. Continuously improve technical knowledge, share best practices with team members, and support professional growth throughout the company. Previous experience repairing small engines, outdoor power equipment, construction equipment, vehicles, or similar machinery. Working knowledge of two-stroke and four-stroke engines. Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, fuel-system, and starting-system problems. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment. Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, service instructions, diagrams, and manufacturer specifications. Basic computer skills and the ability to maintain digital service records, track labor time, and document parts and materials used. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to prioritize repairs and complete work within required deadlines. Ability to work safely and effectively under pressure. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Responsible, dependable, and attentive to detail. Willingness to take initiative and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. Commitment to performing work ethically and with integrity. Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Ability to safely lift, move, and position equipment and parts, with reasonable accommodation available where required.
