Monday - Friday 7AM-3PM | Saturdays as Needed Overview The General Groundsman and Battery/Tire Tech is responsible for recovering batteries and usable wheels/tires from new vehicle arrivals and getting good, sellable inventory to the front office rack. This role splits time between dedicated battery and tire recovery and general yard production support, working closely with the ops team on pulling, setting, and crushing vehicles. Reliable recovery volume and consistent restocking of the front office rack are core to the role. Responsibilities Mornings will be spent work closely with the ops team supporting yard production by setting vehicles in the yard and preparing vehicles for crushing. Afternoons will be dedicated to batteries and tire duties. Pull batteries from new vehicle arrivals, testing each one to determine if it is good and sellable. Transport and stock all good, tested batteries on the front office rack for sale. Properly handle, store, and stage batteries that do not pass testing per company procedure. Inspect tires for tread depth and condition, identifying good-tread tires suitable for resale. Transport and stock good-tread tires and recovered wheels on the front office rack. Keep the front office rack organized, clean, and accurately stocked with current inventory. Follow all safety procedures when handling batteries, including acid/terminal precautions and proper lifting technique. Report any equipment issues, safety concerns, or inventory discrepancies to the Yard Supervisor. Maintain a clean, organized battery and tire staging area. Metrics and KPIs Hit targets for total batteries recovered from new vehicle arrivals. Hit targets for good, tested batteries brought to the front office rack. Hit targets for lose aluminum/chrome wheels gathered from pulled rows. Hit targets for good-tread tires brought to the front office rack. Consistent, on-schedule coverage of battery/tire recovery days (2-3 days per week). Reliable support to the ops team on non-battery/tire days (pulling, setting, crushing daily). Preferred Qualifications Reliable transportation High school diploma or equivalent Must pass a drug, alcohol, and background screening. Provide valid ID Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally (batteries, wheels/tires). Prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and working under or around vehicles. Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, and noise. Ability to safely operate hand tools and yard equipment used in battery, wheel, and tire removal. Comfortable wearing required PPE (gloves, safety glasses, protective clothing) for extended periods.
