Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician performs predominantly mechanical maintenance on production equipment, focusing on troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding mechanical systems to keep the facility running safely and efficiently. This role works extensively with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, performs preventive maintenance, and supports projects such as rebuilding cylinders and pumps. While electrical work is largely handled by controls technicians and engineers, this position works around equipment powered from 24V up to 480V three-phase motors and interacts with production lines, PLC-controlled equipment, drives, gauges, and test equipment. Responsibilities Perform approximately 90% mechanical maintenance on production and process equipment to ensure reliable and safe operation. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment, including production lines, drives, gauges, and test equipment. Diagnose and resolve issues in hydraulic systems, including identifying faulty components and performing necessary repairs. Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic systems as part of overall equipment maintenance. Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and schematics to identify components, plan repairs, and perform accurate installations. Rebuild pumps, including disassembly, inspection, replacement of worn components, reassembly, and functional testing. Replace rollers, drives, valves, and other mechanical components as needed to restore equipment performance. Perform preventive maintenance (PM) activities on machinery, following established schedules and procedures, with an approximate workload of 70% PM and 30% reactive maintenance. Work on mechanical projects such as rebuilding cylinders and upgrading or improving mechanical assemblies. Collaborate with controls technicians and engineers who handle most electrical work, coordinating repairs that involve both mechanical and electrical aspects. Use tools and test equipment safely and effectively to diagnose, repair, and verify the performance of mechanical systems. Document maintenance work performed, including repairs, parts used, and recommendations for future maintenance. Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring issues and suggesting mechanical or maintenance process improvements. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working around production equipment, motors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and fiberglass-based materials. Essential Skills At least 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or production environment. Proven experience in mechanical maintenance, including troubleshooting and repairing production equipment. Strong ability to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, cylinders, and valves. Strong ability to troubleshoot and repair pneumatic systems. Hands-on experience rebuilding pumps, including troubleshooting, repair, and verification of performance. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings. Demonstrated experience performing preventive maintenance, machine repair, and mechanical troubleshooting. Experience working with equipment that includes production lines, PLC-controlled systems, drives, gauges, and test equipment. Solid understanding of mechanical components such as rollers, drives, and valves. Ability to work safely around equipment powered from 24V up to 480V three-phase motors, coordinating with electrical specialists as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications Welding and fabrication experience is a strong plus and can support project work and equipment modifications. Experience working in an industrial environment with hydraulic, pneumatic, and motor-driven systems. Comfort working in a facility that uses fiberglass-based materials and resin processes. Journeyman card is valued and can qualify for higher pay ranges. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently during assigned shifts. Good communication skills to coordinate with other technicians, engineers, and production staff. Ability to adapt to changing schedules and shift structures as the facility transitions from 3-12 hour shifts to 4-10 hour shifts. Why Work Here? Employees benefit from a merit-based culture where pay increases reward strong performance and skill growth. The organization offers competitive compensation structures with clear differentiation for journeyman-level experience, and top pay rates rise on a yearly basis. Team members enjoy solid benefits and the stability of a well-established operation that continues to invest in its people and facility. The site is exploring changes such as unionization and facility improvements, reflecting an environment that listens to employees and continually seeks to enhance working conditions and long-term opportunities. Work Environment This role is based at a manufacturing site of approximately 35 people that produces fiberglass-based raw material for use at other facilities. The environment is generally clean with a moderate temperature, and there are active plans to install air conditioning by next summer. While technicians do not directly handle fiberglass, they work around it and should be comfortable with a slight resin smell in the facility. The site currently operates on a 4-12 hour shift schedule and is transitioning to a 4-10 hour schedule within the next few weeks. This position is for a third-shift maintenance role, with shift times under discussion such as 8:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m.-4:00 a.m., with 8:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m. currently favored. Overtime may occur on a fifth day or weekends when required, although it is not frequent at this time. Training may take place on first or third shift depending on candidate needs. Technicians work around equipment powered from 24V up to 480V three-phase motors, using standard industrial maintenance tools and working alongside controls technicians and engineers who handle most electrical tasks. The dress code aligns with a typical industrial maintenance environment, requiring appropriate workwear and personal protective equipment suitable for working around production machinery, fiberglass materials, and resin.
