Programmer / Setup / Operator - First Shift

JOB SUMMARY

Laspina Tool & Die is seeking an experienced, hands-on CNC Lathe Department Supervisor who can program, set up, and operate CNC lathes while overseeing the daily workflow of the lathe department. We are a family-owned precision machining company with approximately 30 years in business. We manufacture close-tolerance components for the aerospace, packaging, and general manufacturing industries. This position requires strong CNC lathe programming and setup experience. The ideal candidate must be capable of independently troubleshooting difficult jobs, improving machining processes, and assisting other employees within the department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program, set up, and operate CNC multi-axis lathes (Mori Seiki 2500 Y axis sub spindle, Smec 2500 Y axis sub spindle, and more. Read, write, edit, and troubleshoot programs using Fanuc controls. Use GibbsCAM for CNC programming. Set up and operate multi-axis lathes, including milling, drilling, sub-spindle, and Y-axis operations. Set up and run close-tolerance production parts with minimal supervision. Review blueprints, specifications, tolerances, and job requirements. Select proper cutting tools and determine appropriate speeds, feeds, and machining processes. Complete first-piece setups and make necessary tooling or program adjustments. Troubleshoot programming, setup, tooling, and production problems. Use precision measuring instruments to verify part quality. Follow established quality-control procedures and customer requirements. Monitor workflow, job priorities, quality, and efficiency within the lathe department. Provide guidance and assistance to other lathe department employees. Help train employees on setups, programming, machining processes, and proper procedures. Work cooperatively with other department supervisors and management. Maintain a safe, organized, and productive work area. Work overtime when necessary to meet production demands.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Minimum of five years of CNC lathe programming and setup experience. Experience machining aerospace or other close-tolerance precision components. Strong experience with Fanuc controls and proficiency with GibbsCAM. Proficiency with G-code and M-code. Experience with multi-axis lathes, live tooling, sub-spindles, and Y-axis operations. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications. Strong knowledge of tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining processes. Ability to use precision measuring instruments accurately. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Previous experience supervising, training, or guiding machinists. Ability to communicate clearly, respectfully, and professionally. Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or equivalent required. Relevant technical education or machining certifications preferred.

MATERIALS MACHINED

Experience working with a variety of materials is preferred, including aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, brass, and plastics.

PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Ability to stand for extended periods while setting up and operating machinery. Ability to lift and move materials as required. Ability to work safely around industrial machinery and typical manufacturing-floor noise.
