Electrical & Mechanical Machine Tool Technician - CNC Retrofits Job summary This position is well suited for an entry-level to intermediate technician with strong mechanical aptitude who wants to develop skills in CNC machine tools, FANUC controls, servo and spindle systems, industrial electrical systems, and precision mechanical equipment. The Electrical & Mechanical Machine Tool Technician works as part of a team responsible for the electrical, mechanical, and controls modernization of legacy CNC machine tools. This position combines industrial electrical work, control-panel fabrication, CNC installation, machine-tool mechanical service, and field troubleshooting. Working under the guidance of senior technicians, the technician will help build, install, wire, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain CNC machine tools and automation equipment. The role will involve both shop-based retrofit work and travel to customer facilities throughout the Tristate area and, when required, throughout the United States. Key duties CNC Machine Tool Service & Retrofit Travel to customer locations to assist with installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of CNC machine tools and automation equipment. Assist with complete CNC retrofit projects, including machine disassembly, electrical installation, mechanical modifications, wiring, controls installation, testing, and commissioning. Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and controls-related problems on CNC machine tools. Assist with machine startup, axis testing, servo tuning, limit switch verification, spindle operation, tool changer operation, and machine safety circuits. Assist with machine alignment, leveling, mechanical adjustments, and verification of machine-tool geometry. Remove, replace, and adjust machine-tool components such as motors, encoders, switches, sensors, ball screws, linear guides, couplings, belts, bearings, tool changers, and other mechanical assemblies. Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on CNC machine tools and related equipment. Use precision measuring tools to inspect components, troubleshoot mechanical problems, and verify machine condition. Electrical Panel Building & Controls Layout and securely mount

components, servo amplifiers, spindle drives, power supplies, transformers, circuit protection, terminal blocks, and other control components according to electrical drawings and panel layouts. Cut, strip, crimp, label, and route wiring using wire duct, DIN rail, cable carriers, conduit, and other appropriate methods. Maintain proper segregation between high-voltage power circuits, control wiring, and sensitive low-voltage signals. Wire digital and analog I/O, limit switches, proximity sensors, encoders, operator controls, relays, contactors, safety circuits, and other machine-control devices. Fabricate and modify electrical enclosures using drills, punches, taps, saws, and other hand and power tools. Install conduit, cable glands, connectors, cooling equipment, filters, and other electrical enclosure hardware. Perform point-to-point continuity checks and electrical testing using digital multimeters and other appropriate test equipment. Assist with troubleshooting CNC controls, PLC I/O, servo systems, spindle drives, power supplies, sensors, and machine safety circuits. Mechanical Machine-Tool Work Perform mechanical disassembly and reassembly of CNC machine tools and related equipment. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, machine manuals, and parts documentation. Install and adjust motors, gearboxes, couplings, bearings, belts, pulleys, linear motion components, covers, guards, and other machine-tool components. Perform drilling, tapping, grinding, fitting, and other basic machining or fabrication operations as required for retrofit installations. Inspect mechanical assemblies for wear, damage, alignment, proper lubrication, and correct installation. Use torque wrenches and precision hand tools to properly assemble machine components to specified requirements. Assist senior technicians with machine alignment and geometric checks using precision measurement equipment. Job requirements Experience Previous experience in industrial electrical work, machine maintenance, CNC service, electrical panel building, industrial automation, mechanical maintenance, or a related technical trade is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience who are willing to learn CNC electrical, mechanical and controls systems are encouraged to apply. Experience working on CNC machine tools, FANUC controls, industrial automation, servo systems, or machine-tool retrofits is a strong plus. Technical skills The following are ideal but not required Basic understanding of industrial electrical systems and components, including motors, transformers, relays, contactors, circuit breakers, power supplies, sensors, PLCs, servo drives, and spindle drives. Ability to learn to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and machine manuals. Basic understanding of mechanical systems such as bearings, belts, couplings, linear motion systems, ball screws, gearboxes, and lubrication systems. Ability to troubleshoot problems logically and methodically across electrical and mechanical systems. Familiarity with CNC machine operation or maintenance is preferred but not required. Tools & equipment Comfortable using common hand and power tools, including wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, drills, taps, wire strippers, crimpers, torque wrenches, and power tools. Comfortable using digital multimeters and other electrical test equipment. Ability and willingness to learn precision measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, levels, and other machine-tool inspection equipment. Travel Ability to travel to customer facilities for installation, retrofit, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service work is required. Our primary service area is the Tristate region, but our customers are located throughout the United States. Overnight and extended travel may occasionally be required depending on project requirements. Education Associate's degree, technical certificate, or formal training in Industrial Automation, Electrical Systems, Mechatronics, Machine Tool Technology, CNC Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field is highly preferred. Equivalent hands-on industrial experience will be considered in place of formal education. Entry-level technicians and trainees with strong mechanical aptitude and a desire to develop electrical and CNC skills are encouraged to apply. Physical demands Ability to perform detailed electrical wiring and mechanical assembly requiring good manual dexterity. Ability to lift and move components and tools weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods. Ability to work safely around operating machinery, electrical equipment, machine tools, and industrial environments. Ability to work both in a shop environment and at customer facilities. Ideal candidate The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who enjoys working with both machines and electrical systems. They do not need to know everything on day one, but they should have strong mechanical aptitude, an interest in CNC machine tools, and the ability to learn new electrical and controls technology. A successful technician will be comfortable taking a machine apart, figuring out how it works, wiring a control panel, troubleshooting an electrical fault, making a mechanical adjustment, and working through a problem until the machine is operating correctly.
