Lead Finisher - High-End Custom Cabinetry RiverCity Cabinets | Buda, Texas Full-Time | Hands-On Production Position RiverCity Cabinets is seeking an experienced Lead Finisher for our high-end custom cabinetry finishing department. This is a hands-on production role, not a management or office position. The Lead Finisher will spend the majority of each day actively finishing while also guiding daily workflow, assigning work, training team members, troubleshooting finishing issues, and maintaining RiverCity's quality standards. The position reports directly to the Production Manager . Responsibilities Perform hands-on finishing of high-end custom cabinetry and architectural millwork. Apply and work extensively with Poly 2K finishing systems . Mix, develop, and accurately match custom stain colors . Perform glazing, distressing, specialty finishes, and multi-step finish processes. Read and interpret architectural drawings, cabinet drawings, finish schedules, and specifications. Perform finish takeoffs from drawings to determine quantities, materials, and finishing requirements. Prepare projects through all stages leading to topcoat, including sanding, surface preparation, defect correction, finish samples, spray equipment setup, and material requirements. Spray primer, stains, sealers, topcoats, and specialty finishes as required. Inspect work throughout the finishing process for color, consistency, surface quality, and craftsmanship. Troubleshoot finishing problems and make necessary corrections before work moves to the next stage. Assign and distribute daily work among finishing team members based on priorities, skill level, and production requirements. Coordinate the flow of projects through sanding, staining, coating, and final inspection. Train team members in finishing techniques, equipment use, quality standards, and production processes. Assist with interviewing and evaluating potential finishing department hires. Determine and communicate material needs, including stains, primers, topcoats, and consumables. Maintain and troubleshoot spray guns, pumps, hoses, rigs, and related finishing equipment. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient finishing area. Communicate production issues, quality concerns, material needs, and scheduling conflicts promptly. Qualifications Significant professional experience in high-end cabinet, millwork, furniture, or architectural wood finishing . Strong hands-on experience with Poly 2K coatings required. Advanced stain matching and custom color development skills. Experience with glazing, distressing, specialty finishes, and multi-step finishing systems. Strong knowledge of wood species and how different species react to stains and finishing products. Ability to read architectural drawings, cabinet elevations, plans, and finish specifications. Ability to perform finish takeoffs and calculate material requirements. Strong spray-finishing skills. Experience maintaining and troubleshooting professional spray equipment. Ability to identify finishing defects and determine the proper corrective process. Previous experience leading or training other finishers strongly preferred. Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-end craftsmanship. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced custom manufacturing environment with multiple projects in production.
