Themed Entertainment, Museums, Zoos, Sports Venues ThemeWorks is hiring a Scenic Artist to assist with the preparation, painting, detailing, and finishing of scenic elements and custom-built components for immersive environments—from museums and zoos to large-scale themed attractions. This role is ideal for someone who combines artistic ability with hands-on production skills and enjoys using a variety of painting techniques and tools to create unique, high-quality finishes for custom projects. What You'll Do Mix and match colors to approved samples and project requirements. Apply base coats, washes, glazes, stains, textures, specialty finishes, and protective clearcoats. Create realistic surface treatments such as wood grain, stone, metal, rust, aging, weathering, and distressing. Perform airbrushing, blending, shading, highlighting, and fine-detail work. Use brushes, rollers, spray equipment, and other specialty tools to achieve the desired finish. Interpret design drawings, reference images, color samples, and verbal direction. Produce and refine finish samples for review and approval. Work with art direction, designers, supervisors, and other production departments to achieve the intended result. Inspect completed work and make adjustments necessary to meet company quality standards. Maintain a clean and organized workspace and properly care for tools and equipment. Follow all company safety procedures when handling paints, solvents, coatings, and other materials. What We're Looking For Previous experience in scenic painting, commercial art, themed entertainment, murals, theater or a related field. Strong understanding of color, texture, scale, composition, and visual consistency. Ability to accurately reproduce finishes from approved samples and reference materials. Ability to follow artistic direction, accept feedback, and make adjustments efficiently. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet production deadlines. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a production environment. Willingness to cross-train and assist other departments when needed. Motivation to continually develop artistic and technical skills. Sculpting experience is a plus. A portfolio demonstrating relevant scenic, commercial, or fine-art work is preferred. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in a physically active shop environment Why Work at ThemeWorks?
