A Machinist builds and repairs precisely detailed and sized metal parts used in a variety of tools and appliances. Builds parts following a blueprint or creates original designs.
10+ Years Position Summary The Machine Builder I / Lead is responsible for leading or independently assembling, rebuilding, testing, and installing custom machinery. This position requires extensive mechanical aptitude, strong blueprint interpretation skills, and experience with electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Travel to customer sites for machine installation, startup, troubleshooting, and service is a required part of this role. Key Responsibilities Independently build, assemble, and rebuild custom machinery from engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and specifications. Lead small teams during machine assembly and ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. Interpret mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical schematics. Perform machine setup, testing, troubleshooting, debugging, and final adjustments to ensure equipment meets customer specifications. Install and commission machinery at customer facilities, including required travel. Operate fabrication and machine shop equipment, including: Saws,Drills, Mills, Lathes, Grinders Perform welding, threading, cutting, bending, and fitting of machine components. Assemble and troubleshoot electrical and pneumatic systems using basic electrical print reading skills. Maintain a clean, organized work area while following 5S and safety standards. Track job hours, materials, and inventory as required. Follow project schedules and collaborate with engineering, project management, and other departments. Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment safely. Provide professional customer support during installations and service calls. Required Skills & Qualifications 10+ years of machine building or industrial equipment assembly experience. Advanced blueprint and schematic reading skills. Strong mechanical assembly and troubleshooting abilities.
Experience with:
Welding, Electrical assembly, Pneumatics, Basic electrical troubleshooting, Machine alignment Ability to operate mills, lathes, grinders, drills, and other shop equipment. Experience working to tight tolerances and quality standards. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Excellent communication and leadership abilities. Ability to travel for machine installation and customer support. Ability to lift equipment and work in manufacturing and customer-site environments. Preferred Qualifications Experience leading machine build teams. Forklift and overhead crane operation experience. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to train and mentor junior machine builders.
