  • $40 /hr Posted July 24, 2026 Toolroom Grinder & Machinist Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Toolroom Grinder & Machinist to support precision toolroom operations.
The role focuses on precision grinding, manual and light CNC machining, tool and die maintenance, and hand-scraping/fit-up work to maintain molds, fixtures, and production tooling. The ideal candidate is highly skilled with grinders, mills and lathes, proficient in metrology, and familiar with both manual and CNC equipment including Okamoto, Okuma, Bridgeport, Chevalier, and Clausing machines. Key Responsibilities Perform precision grinding (surface, cylindrical, and toolroom grinding) to tight tolerances on tooling, fixtures, and components. Set up and operate manual and CNC mills and lathes for machining, finishing, and repair of production tooling. Perform hand scraping, flap scrapping and dovetail/box way fitting to maintain accurate sliding surfaces and assemblies. Use precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges) to verify dimensions and surface finish. Diagnose, disassemble, repair and reassemble molds, dies and fixtures; perform preventative maintenance on tooling. Program, set up, and run simple CNC milling and turning operations as required; support CNC machinists with setups and fixturing. Operate and maintain shop equipment (Okamoto surface grinders, Okuma machines, Bridgeport mills, Chevalier grinders, Clausing lathes) following safety procedures. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to troubleshoot tooling issues, recommend improvements, and document repairs. Maintain accurate job records, inspection reports, and tooling inventories; ensure work meets quality standards and specifications. Follow shop safety protocols, maintain a clean work area, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in a toolroom or precision machining environment with strong grinding experience. Proven skill operating manual and CNC mills, lathes, surface grinders and toolroom equipment (experience with Okamoto, Okuma, Bridgeport, Chevalier, Clausing is highly desirable). Hands-on experience with scraping, flap scrapping, dovetail/box way maintenance, and precision surface restoration. Proficient with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and height gauges; able to read blueprints and interpret GD&T. Solid understanding of machining processes, cutting tools, feeds and speeds, and surface finish requirements. Ability to set up, tweak and run basic CNC programs, and support CNC operations as needed. Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail with a commitment to quality. Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with engineers and production personnel. Ability to lift moderate weights, work in a shop environment, and adhere to safety procedures.
