Job Title:
CNC Mill Machinist Job Description This role focuses on setting up and operating DMG Mori Seiki CNC mills to produce low-volume and prototype components. You will perform multiple setups per day, make program edits using G and M codes, and work with both CNC and manual equipment. You will also inspect your own work using precision measuring tools to ensure all parts meet blueprint specifications and quality standards. Responsibilities Set up DMG Mori Seiki CNC mills for production and prototype runs, typically completing 4-6 setups per day. Perform program edits using G and M codes to optimize machining operations and address issues as they arise. Handle tool changes, offsets, and machine adjustments to maintain accurate and efficient production. Run low-volume jobs of 25 parts or fewer, as well as prototype parts in support of the engineering team. Operate and support work on manual mills and lathes as needed. Read and interpret production and short-run blueprints to determine machining requirements and tolerances. Inspect your own parts using calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools to verify conformance to specifications. Troubleshoot machining issues, including tooling, setup, and dimensional problems, and implement effective solutions. Ensure proper setup of lathes and mills, including workholding, tooling selection, and program verification. Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures while operating machinery. Work collaboratively with a small team in the machining department to meet production schedules and quality targets. Essential Skills At least 3 years of CNC mill setup experience. Proficiency in making G and M code edits at the machine control. Ability to read and interpret production and short-run blueprints. Experience operating CNC mills and CNC lathes. Experience with manual mills or lathes. Ability to perform in-process and final inspection of parts using calipers and gauges. Strong understanding of CNC machining processes and machine components. Two-year CNC degree or CNC certificate. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a shop environment with close tolerance machining. Comfort working with low-volume and prototype machining work. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple setups per day efficiently. Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills in a machining environment. Why Work Here? The machining department is a smaller, more intimate team of about 13 people, fostering close collaboration and support. The department includes three mills and three turning centers, all Mori Seiki machines, providing a consistent and modern equipment base. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and high-quality work, with a professional shop setting and standard industrial attire appropriate for a precision machining operation. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shoreview, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $31.00/hr.
