Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Machinist is responsible for manufacturing precision machine components used in DCM grinding and custom machinery builds. This role operates manual and CNC equipment to produce parts that meet engineering specifications and tight tolerances. In a small manufacturing environment, the Machinist plays a critical role in supporting machine builds, repairs, and continuous improvement efforts while maintaining safe, clean, and organized work areas.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to plan machining setups and operations.
- Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools (mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, etc.) to produce precision components to specification.
- Manufacture parts to required tolerances and quality standards using appropriate tooling and machining methods.
- Use precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, indicators, gauges, etc.) to inspect workpieces before, during, and after machining.
- Identify and communicate print discrepancies or potential design improvements to Engineering.
- Troubleshoot machining issues, make necessary adjustments, and ensure part accuracy and repeatability.
- Support repair, rebuilding, or modification of existing equipment and machine components as needed.
- Fabricate replacement parts when commercial parts are unavailable or unsuitable.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance and minor service on machine shop equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Follow all safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and company policies while operating equipment under power.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
:- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper disposal of scrap materials and daily workstation readiness.
- Support other production or shop activities consistent with skill level and business needs.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
:- Completion of a two-year technical training program in machining or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Demonstrated experience operating manual and/or CNC machine tools in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, feeds and speeds, and material characteristics.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and hold tight tolerances.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate within a small team environment.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Regular exposure to manufacturing and shop-floor conditions.
- Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and working around heavy machinery.
- Ability to lift materials and components as required (up to 50 pounds).
- Close visual attention required to ensure precision and prevent damage to equipment or components.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
