Job Description

Position:
CNC Lathe Setup Machinist 2nd shift
Job Tasks:
Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures. Prepare work assignment by organizing tools, tool holders, supplies, and materials. Sets-up CNC lathe for close tolerance machining by studying drawing, downloading computerized instructions, reading M and G code, and makes minor modifications to program to ensure tolerances are achieved. Loads raw material slugs and operates CNC lathe to machine parts. Monitors CNC lathe to ensure proper operation to machine defect-free parts. Completes first piece inspection and obtains Inspector signoff. Performs in-process part inspection by using calipers, snap gages, and other precision measuring instruments. Changes CNC lathe's tools and inserts as necessary to ensure throughput and quality. Enters daily production job results into data collection. Documents work by signing-off on job router. Cooperatively engages, instructs, and coaches other machinists as necessary throughout the day. Promotes a positive work environment and leads by example in all aspects of job performance. Performs production-maintenance activities as necessary (wipe down exterior of machine, clean chips/spray-down machine internal, refill coolant/other lubricants, sweep area, empty scrap hopper) Skilled in large diameter turning: DMG Mori, 4-axis lathe, single 15" diameter spindle, single turret, live tooling, tail stock, steady rest. Ability to read M&G code and make small program changes. Programs are completed and provided to the machinist.
Possesses own tools:
pliers, flat and Phillips head screwdrivers, alien wrenches, open end box wrenches, hammer, etc.
Possesses own quality instruments:
12" caliper; micrometers 0-3 inch; 0.030" dial indicator; magnetic base with extension arm.
Raw material grades:
4140, 4340, 8620, 1018-1045, 304 stainless all of which can be hardened to Re 28- 32 or greater Raw material sizes: Diameters 2" - 26".
