CNC Lathe Machinist Job Description This role focuses on operating and setting up multi-axis CNC lathes and 45 axis mills to produce forged and complex aerospace components with precision and consistency. You will work with a variety of advanced machinery, perform accurate setups, and support machining and basic programming activities to meet demanding quality and production standards. Responsibilities Operate multi-axis CNC lathes and 45 axis mills to machine forged parts and complex aerospace components according to specifications and engineering drawings. Set up CNC lathes and mills, including tooling, fixtures, workholding, and offsets, to ensure efficient and accurate machining operations. Work with mixed machinery, including 4 and 5 axis mills, lathes, and a 6 axis mill, to complete a variety of machining tasks. Perform and verify machine setups for new and repeat jobs, ensuring correct tools, programs, and materials are in place before production runs. Monitor machining processes, make necessary adjustments to feeds, speeds, and offsets, and ensure parts meet dimensional and surface finish requirements. Assist with or perform CNC programming-related tasks as needed to support production, including editing or adjusting existing programs within defined parameters. Inspect parts during and after machining using appropriate measuring tools to confirm adherence to quality standards and customer requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area around mills and lathes, following all safety procedures and equipment guidelines. Collaborate with team members, including other machinists and support staff, to troubleshoot issues and improve machining efficiency and quality. Document work as required, including setup information, production notes, and any changes made to programs or processes. Essential Skills Hands-on experience operating multi-axis CNC lathes. Hands-on experience operating 45 axis CNC mills. Proficiency in setting up CNC lathes and mills, including tooling, fixturing, and offsets. Ability to work with mixed machinery, including 4 and 5 axis mills, lathes, and a 6 axis mill. Demonstrated skill in machining forged parts and complex aerospace components. Practical knowledge of CNC machining processes, including turning and milling. Ability to read and interpret specifications and follow detailed machining instructions. Basic CNC programming and program editing capability related to machine setup and operation. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise components. Ability and willingness to work swing or weekend shifts as scheduled. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience machining aerospace components or other high-precision, complex parts. Familiarity with multi-axis machining strategies for both lathes and mills. Comfort working with a variety of CNC machines in a mixed-production environment. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills in a production setting. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced shop. Why Work Here? Work Environment The position is based in a production machining environment featuring mixed CNC equipment, including 4 and 5 axis mills, multi-axis lathes, and a 6 axis mill. You will work on forged parts and complex aerospace components, using modern CNC controls and tooling in a shop setting that emphasizes precision and safety. Available shift schedules include Monday through Thursday from 3:15 p.m. to 1:45 a.m. and Friday through Sunday from 5:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with swing shift differentials provided. The role requires standing for extended periods, working around running machinery, and following standard shop attire and safety practices, including appropriate protective equipment as required by the facility. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fife, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $40.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
