Honing Machine Operator

2nd shift Centerless Grinding Machine Operator Job Description The Honing Machine Operator sets up and operates honing equipment to produce precision machined parts in accordance with work orders, blueprints, and specifications. This role interprets technical documentation, executes machining programs, performs in-process inspections, and ensures that all parts meet quality and safety standards in a standard machine shop environment. Responsibilities Hone machined parts in accordance with work orders, blueprints, sketches, and specifications. Interpret job instructions, including tool lists, job routing, part drawings, and quality instructions, to determine machining requirements. Select and set up appropriate work holding devices, tools, and fixtures for honing and related machining operations. Load programs into machine controls and adjust machine settings as necessary to meet part specifications. Monitor and ensure proper lubrication and cooling of work pieces during machining operations. Execute machining programs, assist with measurements, and make precise adjustments to achieve required dimensions and finishes. Assist in inspecting first-run pieces and subsequent parts to verify conformance to specifications using appropriate measuring tools. Perform quality checks and document inspection results in accordance with established procedures. Monitor equipment functionality and report any issues or irregularities to ensure safe and efficient operation. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area in accordance with 5S standards. Follow all established safety protocols and contribute to a safe working environment. Essential Skills Experience operating honing machines or similar machine tools in a production or machine shop environment. Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and part drawings. Basic understanding of CNC lathe and mill machine controls. Proficiency in interpreting work orders, job routing, tool lists, and technical documents. Familiarity with basic shop math for measurements and calculations. Competency in using bore gauges and other precision measuring instruments. Ability to perform visual and dimensional inspection and quality checks to verify conformance to specifications. Knowledge of proper lubrication and cooling practices for machined parts. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently. Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a clean, organized work area. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with centerless grinding or related machining processes. Background as a vertical hone technician or similar role working with precision machined parts. Familiarity with 5S or other continuous improvement and workplace organization methodologies. Comfort working with inspection and quality control processes in a manufacturing environment. Work Environment This position is based in a standard machine shop environment, working around machining centers, honing equipment, and inspection tools. The role follows a 2nd shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. You will work in a production setting that emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and adherence to 5S standards, with regular use of machine controls, measuring instruments, and shop math in daily tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.50 - $25.00/hr.
