Packaging Line Worker Job Description The Packaging Line Worker operates production and packaging equipment, performs assembly and labeling tasks, conducts basic quality checks, and prepares products for shipment. The role may involve minor equipment set-up and operation while maintaining a clean, efficient, and safety-focused work area. Responsibilities Operate slitter and other packaging line machinery safely and efficiently. Perform assembly tasks to prepare products for packaging according to production specifications. Apply labels accurately and consistently to products and packaging materials. Conduct basic quality control checks to ensure products meet established standards. Complete packaging of finished goods, including boxing, sealing, and preparing items for shipment. Assist with minor set-up and adjustment of equipment as needed for different production runs. Handle materials throughout the production area, including loading, unloading, and staging components. Follow written and verbal instructions, production schedules, and standard operating procedures. Work collaboratively in teams of 24 to meet production goals and maintain workflow. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety and PPE requirements. Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or quality problems to the appropriate personnel promptly. Support overtime and additional hours as required based on production volume. Essential Skills At least 6 months of prior warehouse experience or equivalent experience. 2 years of machine operation and packaging experience. Ability to operate production machinery and packaging equipment safely. Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination for assembly and packaging tasks. Basic reading, writing, and math skills to follow instructions and complete documentation. Ability to handle materials and perform physical tasks associated with production work. Ability to work effectively as part of a small team in a fast-paced environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in production, machine operation, packaging, and assembly environments. Comfort working with mechanical equipment and performing minor equipment set-up. Reliable attendance and willingness to work overtime based on production needs. Work Environment This role is based in a clean production and warehouse environment, working in teams of 23 or 34. The position is on second shift, Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., with overtime possible depending on production volume. The dress code consists of jeans or other work pant materials; leggings and sweatpants are not permitted. All required personal protective equipment must be worn, including safety glasses, nitrile gloves, and cut-resistant gloves. Workers must provide their own steel toe boots. The environment emphasizes teamwork, safety, and adherence to established procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ames, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
