Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:00pm, Saturdays 8:00am-12:00pm and overtime as needed.

COMPENSATION

$17-20.00/hr., based on skills and experience.

PURPOSE:

The inspector's primary role is to inspect incoming loads at Metalico Niagara Falls and watch over the general public (peddlers) unloading at the sheet pile to eliminate undesirable materials from entering our stream (i.e., propane tanks, PCBs, and batteries, etc.)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Greet the Peddler with courtesy. Excellent customer service experience. Inspect scrap load to identity prohibited items, assign correct commodity codes, and assign deductions according to best practices. Inspect customer materials for liquids, non-metallic materials, and other non-acceptable materials (i.e., propane tanks, PCBs, and batteries, etc.) Identify and record inspection data to include weight, grade, content, and quantity of scrap material. Ensure customers drop the correct material in the correct designated areas. Direct peddler to drop-off location(s). Communicate via 2-way radio with weigh master and yard personnel. Direct peddler through the outbound scale and instruct on payout procedure. Physically assist customers with unloading of their materials. Train to operate equipment (forklift, skidsteer, crane) Train to buy material on peddler scale. Cross train in other tasks as needed or assigned by management. Load and unload scrap metal materials. Clean and prepare job site in a tidy and safe manner. Must be able to perform a variety of tasks in all kinds of weather/seasons. Required to wear proper PPE (safety toed boots, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves)

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED preferred. Able to operate forklifts, bobcats, loaders a plus. Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time. Knowledge of the various ferrous and non-ferrous metals a plus. Quick learner who can follow directions. Good communication skills. Team player. Organized, consistent, and good at multitasking. Must have reliable transportation to work and valid identification.

Ability to use both hands regularly with enough dexterity to operate basic hand and power tools. Ability to move, lift, and carry objects and materials up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance. Physically able to participate in sessions, presentations, and meetings. Outside work in the Yard is where temperature and weather extremes (hot, cold, rain, snow) may be encountered. Work may take place in an industrial environment, with noise, dust & fumes. Noise level in the work environment can be moderate at times, hearing protection is provided by the Company at all times.
