Automatic Screw Machine Setup Technician /

Syracuse, NY Pay Range:
$24.00 - $35.00 per hour (based on experience)
Overview:
A third-generation, family-owned precision manufacturer supporting aerospace, defense, and critical infrastructure customers is seeking an experienced Automatic Screw Machine Setup Technician / Operator to support high-volume production on New Britain automatic screw machines. This is a highly skilled role designed for experienced automatic screw machine professionals who can independently set up, troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain production while ensuring tight tolerances and consistent output. This position is ideal for someone seeking long-term stability, strong leadership potential, and the opportunity to play a critical role in expanding machining operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up and operate New Britain automatic screw machines for production runs Perform complete job changeovers, tooling adjustments, and machine setups Troubleshoot machine issues, tooling problems, and process inefficiencies Optimize machine performance, cycle times, feeds, speeds, and production flow Maintain part quality while holding tight tolerances Inspect parts using precision measurement tools to ensure compliance with customer specifications Minimize downtime, scrap, and production interruptions Support preventative maintenance and machine upkeep Read blueprints, job travelers, work instructions, and production documentation Collaborate with engineering, quality, and leadership teams on process improvements Maintain safe, organized, and efficient work areas Support less experienced operators as needed
Required Qualifications:
3+ years of experience operating and setting up New Britain automatic screw machines or similar multi-spindle automatic equipment Strong knowledge of machine setup, tooling, troubleshooting, and production optimization Ability to independently manage setups and hold production tolerances Experience with tooling, feeds, speeds, machine timing, and efficiency improvements Strong blueprint reading and precision measurement skills Proven ability to reduce downtime and improve machine productivity High attention to detail and commitment to quality
Preferred Qualifications:
Aerospace, defense, medical, or precision manufacturing experience Leadership or mentoring experience Continuous improvement or lean manufacturing mindset Long-term interest in lead or supervisory growth
