CNC Laser Operator Acoustical Sheetmetal Company LLC Virginia Beach, VA Job Details 14 hours ago Qualifications Personal protective equipment (PPE) adherence High school diploma or GED Full Job Description Role Overview The Plate Laser Machine Operator is responsible for safely, efficiently, and accurately operating ASC's Trumpf 3060 TruFiber laser cutting equipment to process large steel plate materials used in the manufacturing of critical power infrastructure components. This role supports production objectives by ensuring quality parts are produced on schedule while maintaining equipment readiness, workplace safety, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, quality focused, dependable, and capable of identifying and resolving routine machine issues while working independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Night Shift Operator plays a critical role in supporting production goals, maintaining material flow, and ensuring ASC's standards for safety, quality, and productivity are achieved. Key Responsibilities Machine Setup & Operation Set up and operate Trumpf 3060 laser cutting equipment according to production schedules, work instructions, and engineering requirements. Review work orders, nesting programs, blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications prior to production. Verify material type, thickness, cutting parameters, and machine settings before processing. Perform machine startup, shutdown, and routine operational checks. Monitor cutting performance to ensure quality, machine reliability, and production efficiency. Maximize material utilization while maintaining safety and quality standards. Material Handling Verify steel plate material, grade, thickness, and job requirements before processing. Safely load, position, and unload steel plate using overhead cranes, forklifts, and approved material-handling equipment. Remove finished parts, remnants, skeletons, slag, and scrap from the cutting area. Maintain proper material identification and organization throughout the production process. Protect raw materials and finished components from damage during handling and staging. Quality Assurance Inspect edge quality, dimensions, hole quality, and overall cut performance during production. Identify nonconforming materials, parts, or cutting conditions and take appropriate corrective action. Communicate quality concerns to supervision and Quality personnel when issues cannot be resolved at the machine. Support ASC's commitment to delivering quality products that meet customer and engineering requirements. Troubleshooting & Problem Solving Troubleshoot routine machine and cutting issues, including consumable wear, poor cut quality, machine alarms, incomplete cuts, and programming concerns. Make safe operator-level adjustments to restore production when appropriate. Escalate equipment, quality, or safety concerns that require maintenance or management intervention. Communicate recurring operational issues to support long-term corrective action and process improvement. Equipment Care & Preventive Maintenance Perform required daily inspections and operator-level preventive maintenance activities. Inspect and replace approved consumable components as needed. Maintain cutting surfaces, nozzles, optics, gas systems, and other operator-maintained equipment. Keep equipment and surrounding work areas free of excessive scrap, slag, and debris. Report abnormal machine conditions, maintenance concerns, and equipment damage promptly. Safety & Housekeeping Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements. Safely operate cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment in accordance with company standards. Maintain awareness of suspended loads, sharp edges, moving equipment, hot materials, and other manufacturing hazards. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout each shift. Immediately report unsafe conditions, near misses, equipment damage, and safety concerns. Documentation & Communication Complete production records, inspection documents, maintenance logs, and material records accurately. Track production quantities, downtime, scrap, quality concerns, and machine issues. Maintain material traceability and product identification requirements. Provide detailed shift handoff communication regarding machine status, production priorities, quality concerns, and work in progress. Shift Responsibilities Demonstrate reliability, accountability, and independent decision-making during shift operations. Maintain productivity and attention to detail throughout the shift. Follow production priorities and communicate scheduling concerns when necessary. Exercise sound judgment when troubleshooting equipment and quality issues. Support team objectives through cooperation, material flow assistance, housekeeping, and production support activities. What We're Looking For High School Diploma or GED required. Previous manufacturing, fabrication, CNC, laser cutting, or industrial equipment operating experience preferred. Experience operating laser cutting equipment, CNC machinery, or similar manufacturing systems preferred. Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, work instructions, and production documentation. Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts preferred or ability to obtain certification. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards. Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and accountability. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with minimal supervision. Physical & Work Requirements Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive manufacturing activities throughout the shift. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., utilizing mechanical lifting devices or assistance when appropriate. Ability to safely handle steel components that may contain sharp edges. Ability to work around large industrial machinery, moving materials, and material-handling equipment. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment at all times. Ability to visually inspect parts, monitor equipment, and safely perform assigned duties. Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment that may include noise, heat, sparks, dust, fumes, moving equipment, and heavy materials.
