Job Description

Job Summary Ecological Restoration Crew Leader will direct a team in maintaining and restoring forests, prairies, wetlands, and other plant communities. This position provides a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable leadership and communication skills. Responsibilities Directing field crews and work closely with project managers to ensure site goals are met Directing prescribed burns and help create formal burn plans Helping create seasonal management plans for high priority sites Communicating project information and delegating tasks to team members Assisting in training new technicians in proper management techniques and plant identification Applying advanced knowledge of native and invasive plant species to decide proper control methods in various ecosystems Deciding proper chemical, application method, and rate for each site. Chemical mixing, handling, and applications to control invasive species via backpack application, wicking, and ATV spraying Assisting with prescribed burn activities including, but not limited to; burn preparations, handling burn equipment, maintaining a strong line of communication during a burn, and implementing safe burn practices Operating brush clearing equipment safely including minor power equipment such as weed whips, mowers, and chainsaws Requirements At least 2-3 years of experience in restoration fieldwork College student or recent graduate studying in the field of Environmental Science, Ecology, Geology, or related field is preferred Advanced knowledge of Midwest/Chicagoland natural communities, flora, and fauna Have or are willing to obtain National Wildlife Fire Coordinating Group

coursework certification Have or are willing to obtain an Illinois Pesticide Operator License Ability to work between 40 and 50+ hours a week with occasional weekend availability preferred Ability to work in rough or rugged terrain over a full workday Ability to lift 50 pounds and walk for long periods Come join our team as an Ecological Restoration Crew Leader where you can make a significant impact on our projects while developing your leadership skills in a supportive environment!
