Position Description

Summary

Directs and coordinates activities concerned with production of company products such as concrete, or sand by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)

Assists management personnel to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and to obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered. Purchases and procures raw materials for production and takes product orders over the telephone or other sources and incorporates into the production schedule.

Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.

Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.

Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems.

Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality of the product.

Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operation issues.

Consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve the production and quality of products.

Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.

Purchases, receives, ships and procures deliveries of raw material used in the production process in timely and cost effective manner, insuring adequate supplies.

Schedules delivery of product when necessary using company trucks as well as outside trucks.

Schedules production and sequencing of phases within the day for supplying product to customers and projects.

Develop a thorough understanding of mix designs, gradations, and the equipment requirements for the product to be produced in order to insure quality control.

Will also be required to report/assist other plants during off production periods of the portable plant operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Indirectly supervises Truck Drivers and Mixer out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable include but are not limited to; training employees; planning, assigning, and directing employees work; appraising employee and operational performance; purchasing and procurement of raw materials in adequate quantities to insure continued operational production; directs employees to perform their assigned duties in a manner that insures the safety and health of the employees; directly works with and assists management with the operation of the business.

Education and/or Experience

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum 2 years of experience of concrete batching and understanding the operational procedures of ready-mix operations.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ability to add, subtract, divide, multiply in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
